They should work in ZDoomGL. THe software renderer will most likely never support them because they are True Color and cannot be displayed properly in a paletted environment.

Besides, they look ok on their own but when used in the game it totally takes away that classic 'Doom feeling'. (In other words, I don't like them!)

Maybe they'd look good with high resolution monsters. But those would probably end up being little more than a stretch-and-blur job (which apparently some of the uglier textures on that site are). That just looks dumb, and takes up a frup of a lot more disk space.

Every last texture on that site was made starting with a clean slate and drawing a hi-res texture based on the old one. They didn't use the old one to start with, they didn't stretch it, blur it, or anything else that would require using it, as that would be illegal.

Personally, I think they look just fine. The only thing that bothers me is that they're not uniform (which is bound to happen when several people contribute to a project) and sometimes don't look as good together as the old textures did.

I'm sure all of you could do better.

I've seen quite a few stretch+filter textures on those pages.

Anybody noticed how the replacement "blood/slime dripping" textures really, really suck? Why did they accepted this? It's a few vertical brush strokes in Photoshop for god's sake. A blind, brain-damaged monkey armed with Microsoft Paint could do better.

Plus they state that all textures must be remade from scratch, yet some of them are very, VERY OBVIOUSLY resampled/filtered, like the Icon of Sin, the teleport squares, the green marble demon faces and some skull/goatface wall decorations.

Some of the textures are really nice, others... are horrible. But I think it's still a work in progress.
