Why the name ZDoom?

I say, it's called Z because it's the end of all that's good and worthy about Doom, meaning not that it puts an actual end to it, but that it symbolises the absolute border to which Doom could aspire technologically and gameplay-wise.

That, not being the correct answer I suppose, is the best explanation to me, so there you have it

Maybe Z because it's the FINAL doom port, cause it's the best. As Z is the last letter of the alphabet (duh)
