Inferno : A Divine Comedy Wad

Projects that have specifically been abandoned or considered "dead" get moved here, so people will quit bumping them. If your project has wound up here and it should not be, contact a moderator to have it moved back to the land of the living.

Inferno : A Divine Comedy Wad

Post by Batandy »

Dante Alighieri, the Supreme Poet, created a unique version of Hell, perhaps, the scariest, darkest version of the Devil's land.
In this mod, you'll explore every single hellish circle of the poem, starting from the Dark Forest, while finding your path to redemption.

Gameplay

Inferno will focus on exploring every circle of the Divine Comedy, and like in the poem, darkness plays a major role, secret spots are often hidden in the dark. Luckily you'll also find a torch on your way, which you can use to light up the area. There'll be unique monsters for each circle, and some might give you special mana-based powers

Difficulty Settings

Tiny Spark = Easiest mode for casual gamers, monsters are very easy to kill and they deal half the damage
Gentle Heart = Basic easy mode, weak monsters but they'll deal more damage than in "Tiny Spark"
Virtue and Knowledge = Normal mode, with normal health and damage
Eternal Pain = Hard mode, monsters have a bit more health and deal more damage
All Hope Abandon = Hardest mode, monsters are fast, have 2X health and they deal 2X damage

Final boss: you're encased in ice being chewed up by the Devil.

Gameplay primarily inspired by CYBERQUEEN.

I think you should also include Purgatory and Paradise as well (since most people seem to only focus on Inferno so much while ignoring the other two) which at the end you fight the Celestial Dictator Yahweh himself just to avenge the tortured souls in Hell that he has sent down there just because they didn't follow his rigid ways and everything else he has done since he's much more of a mass murderer than Satan/Lucifer is. Once killed, humanity can finally be freed from Yahweh's grip and the tortured souls can finally be freed from their torments.

Of course no one has made Angel sprites though.

Actually a better storyline would be "Fuck Christian Mythology, let's kill them all" since 'redemption' style storyline is just turning it into a Christian Morality tale sponsored by the Catholic Church.

I think someone needs to take this opportunity to make a Pro-Atheist/misotheist game.

Of course one of the troubling things I noticed in the media that Satan/Demons are always portrayed as the bad guy and while God/Angels are always portrayed as the good guys which I actually hate that as if it's ignoring the atrocities what the Abrahamic God did while pointing towards a strawman (Satan/Lucifer) being the 'source of all evil' which is annoying actually.

did you use some of the music from the dante's inferno game? the lil bit sounds like it was from there, haha.

Also it'd be cool if, by your weapon system, each ring offered a new weapon based apon the sin

I agree, that would make an awesome mod. Would love to see someone do that, along with having the angels designs from the bible, rather than how they're depicted in mainstream media. Imagine fighting seraphim, thrones, and the four living creatures.

I like this idea, but dislike the idea of killing god. If you want to call it a mythology/treat it as one, you have to play by that mythology's rules, and one of them is that god is all powerful, all knowing and all loving, and as such couldn't be killed. I feel like warping the rules of the story in order to allow for combat in Purgatorio or Paradiso would be a disservice to the masterwork that is The Divine Comedy.
Fighting some fallen angels that are closer to how angels are described in the Bible would be awesome as well.

The problem also with it that purgatorio and paradiso doesnt seem to lend itself to combat as much as inferno can. Most people rework paradise lost to cover purgatorio and paradiso, as it lends itself more towards an epic in general.

I knew that I was inevitably going to get this type of response ("Nope you can't kill our God")....

This is of course rubbish, in the God of War series they made the Greek Gods killable (plus they just appropriated them) while originally they were unkillable along with the Titans if you read the actual Greek Myths (since in the Titan wars, they couldn't kill each other, they only did heavy stunning and imprisonment) why not with the Christian God and what makes him so special? Of course it shows we live in a Christian Predominated society where it's okay we appropriate other Deities and for example put them into Arenas to fight each other as if they're playthings but touching the Christian God is apparently a no no it seems which is bullshit, if all the other Deities are up for grabs, the Abrahamic God should be no exception as well.

Also The Abrahamic God is far from "All Loving" and plus his actions are rather contradictory at best or rather things are vaguely subjective which the Abrahamic God is actually a equivalent to a abusive father/husband/boyfriend that sends us to Hell for not following his rigid ways and we constantly have to ask for forgiveness everytime just for being human which is also example of Stockholm Syndrome (that's what this whole "God is All Loving" actually means and plus the entire nutshell of Abrahamic religions as well). Now that's what I call a real antagonist than Satan/Lucifer should ever be. Oh also this.

Point is, things can be changed.

Well Actually it's more like we fight the Godheads like the Son, Father and the Holy Spirit as the final boss. Of course Jesus himself could look like this like he's described in the Book of Revelations.

You know what, I think we should let Batandy weigh in on what he wants in his mod and give this discussion a rest for the time being, alright? Seriously. You always have to dive in on these sorts of discussions and I can't be the only person here that's irritated by it.

Trust me, you're not. Why not take it to Off-Topic, Jinal, if you must?

Anyway, looking forward to this mod---it looks fresh.
