Brutal HeXen - BETA RELEASED

Projects that have specifically been abandoned or considered "dead" get moved here, so people will quit bumping them. If your project has wound up here and it should not be, contact a moderator to have it moved back to the land of the living.

Just so you know, ftfy means "fixed that for you". He changed your words to fit his opinion; he's not trying to claim you actually said that.

On that note, I agree that the weapons look far too overpowered. I'm also concerned about the self-damage, as even the mage often gets into unavoidable melee fights. Another thing I'm noticing is that there's one hell of a lot of smoke and opaque particle effects, which completely ruins the view and makes everything look sloppy.

The Mage looks OP, but what bothered me was that some of the sfx weren't a good match, stylistically, with the rest of Hexen.
I'm also wondering if, since Brutal Doom featured some reworked weapon sprites, will this? The shield and crossbow are obviously new, but the Mage's weapons looked like they were reused vanilla sprites.

I love it, though a more original version of the weapons should be made. it still would be nice to play around with the weapons you made already and compare it to the originals.
cant wait :P

Lol the mage looks likes he's performing the kamea wave from dragon ball z with that arc of death. Still, glad to see the project is still going.

Yes, I will be eagerly awaiting this mod, probably more than BrutalDoom. Easily has more prospects then my attempts at a HeXen mod ever turned up. Only better game on the engine was strife, and that wasn't great for multiplayer. Though I'm sure with gratuitous Brutal application, it too could be good. It'd just need polishing. As far as the puzzles in HeXen go, I liked them. Reminded me of Myst. However, it might be nice to add like Light Columns or something over puzzle items to people can spot them quickly. Nothing you can do about switches easily, really, though.

Edit: Thought about it some more, and thought one thing which would really add to HeXen is the player classes abilities playing off each other. It's been awhile since I read your weapon's list, but using the vanilla weapons as an example, make it so when the enemies frozen by the mage get hit by the charged lightning axe the fighter uses, they electrify and explode outward. Or the mage can hit the Axe-wielding fighter with the arc of death to increase his DPS. As far as the cleric goes, have it so his firestorm circle things circle players if he hits one, and they follow for awhile igniting surroundings. Perhaps the serpent staff can be used to heal other players from the Cleric's life, and increase it's drain. Other stuff like that. HeXen is really best played coop, and brutal is best played multiplayer, so it'd be a shame to miss an opportunity to embellish the coop in ways they couldn't at the time.

Here's something you could use. Some new sounds for the ax weapon.
BrutalSNDForYou.zip
Just so everyone knows, this isn't a replacement mod. Just something Sarge could use.

sooo when I try and dl the beta it says the file is either deleted or missing, did this die?! If so it is a damn shame, Hexen was badass and these features might be enough for me to actually play through the entire game.

That's still more progress than you get from most in-development games... Let alone ones headed by a single person.

I wait patiently. 4/5 times Mark delivers.
