Krazy Kate! Adventures of Light & Darkness

Projects that have specifically been abandoned or considered "dead" get moved here, so people will quit bumping them. If your project has wound up here and it should not be, contact a moderator to have it moved back to the land of the living.

What's not straightforward about "you're brushing critique aside because you're only interested in praise"? Only listening to the echo chamber and cultivating an attitude of "if you don't have glowingly positive things to say, satan" stagnates your growth as a creator, and makes your work worse. That's a lesson I've learned the hard way.

Whatever, you're not buying what I'm selling, and I have bigger fish to fry elsewhere. Have fun, I guess.

Okay, now it's obvious to me that you're just seeing what you want to see.

I just acknowledged that there were problems and that I will fix them. And hell, I'm working on it right now. You completely failed to notice I labeled the key bar between the shots and the video? Heck, I actually decided to take Vaecrius' advice afterward and just do away with the keybox and put back the larger key display because I felt it's a good idea.

I didn't address the problem of the texture outlines because the levels are unfinished, and I will do so when I have a better idea of a general layout of the level and it won't change further. Simple.

And really, you're expecting much out of the hud because things are actually obvious in the game as you play it, there's very little guesswork involved in figuring out what goes where, it's nearly impossible to mistake any element of the hud for any other element and it's as small as it can possibly get. Did Psychic throw you off because the blood money is a completely unlabeled number to the side? Some things can easily be implied, and if you're expecting something exactly like Doom, sorry but you're sadly mistaken. This stopped being Doom a long time ago. Oh, and by the way, there's this key on the keyboard called F1.

So where am I throwing away suggestions now? And if I missed something, well fine, it got lost in the noise, but it'll resurface and I can fix it in review.

MAAAAAARGE YOU'RE BREAKING MY HEEEAAAART

Well, contrary to what's been implied, I'm open to suggestions and talking about whatever, so I'll be listening for ideas to throw around and whatnot.

.......... :?: one day missed and this thread has already expanded 2 pages......What the hell did i miss? and why the argument over a mod that features a cute kids drawing?(Then again, people can argue over stuff that seem pointless to another person)

Anywho, any story to this purple little cat/doll/whateveritis? and since this is going to have it's own map set, what are the enemies supposed to look like?

By the looks of it, is the boss gonna be something like those cute cartoony pirate bosses that are collored red and wear an eye-patch while wielding a pirate cannon?

About the rainbow power thingy. would it be too hard if you made all the weapons have their own "rainbow powered" attack instead of just the sword? (Or mabye even a powe up that fills the rainbow instantly [nyan-cat?])

And judging by the weapons. Your gonna make the enemies into flower patches or something like that on death? Or maybe explode into confetti like on serious Sam on any Xdeath?(can't have blood in a kiddie mod now! :D )

The first thing I'm gonna do when this is released is is let my 2 little kid cousins play this. I wanna see their reactions.

P.S.

I'm gonna have to echo the sentiment about the player pain sounds. I don't think lowering the volume would fix it, though. It'd help a little bit, but the sounds themselves of a little(?) girl in torturous pain just kind of... well, it's hard to explain exactly, but it hurts my sense of humanity or something. It's just painful to listen to, not due to it being annoying or grating, but just sounding... I dunno, not light-hearted enough? Like I'm literally listening to a little girl be slowly and painfully killed?

Sorry, I'm probably making very little sense, but the sound itself just hurts something inside me. The mod itself looks very interesting, it's really just the pain sounds that rub me the wrong way. And it probably didn't need this long of a post to explain it!

... Hmm.

Okay so I'll borrow the Magic Barrier sound from 72, for now at least until I can record something better. And "death" (being knocked out, really) is a warp to The Void. In multiplayer (which is the point, really), once you use your last life, someone has to cast you out of The Void again. For one character it's free (since they control The Void), for other characters it's 50% of their max Rainbow Power (which is more of a general-use mana). In singleplayer, it behaves the same way it does in 72: You restart the level with minimal inventory, Doom-style. You do keep your Star Expansions, however.

I'm also thinking about including 72's Spell System (the 6-button panel), which will allow more than just one passive power to be used. Each character will have their own spell set, and there'll be a "main" spell set shared for all characters.

...what's this about pain sounds? All I've seen is a clip with the vanilla Doomguy pain sound unreplaced.

EDIT: Righto, on to page 1 then!

...yeah, the pain sounds might not have been the best choice. I'm not thinking of any actual little girl, far from it... but rather another kind of... game... which associations might be... unfortunate. :|

I've got to say, this project looks pretty damn cool. I don't know why but I find myself drawn to it and I look forward to seeing what comes of it. Don't get dissuaded, you've got a good start here and with some work I'm sure it'll be great!

I actually kept the original sounds, but unfiltered ones. They're used in the final level, which is, well, special. I don't want to spoil what happens in Story Mode just yet though, but it'll become more appropriate in that context.

So I've played around with the sounds, and recorded something better. See if this is better (Yes, I'm aware that her volume is lower than the standard doom sounds, I'll adjust the volume in a bit):

For reference, her sounds are context-sensitive, so depending on how she takes damage, she'll say different things, like "Hot!" from a damaging floor, or "Stop that!" if an enemy throws something at her. Crushers will make her squeak.

Very cute. Enjoying the little videos. Also, I see you didn't use the 'charge up' ability with your Star? Wand, is that from a powerup, or you opt not to use it for the fight?

Also, crushers will make her squeak? I'll remember that. </3
