Re: Custom Texture Thread.
Unless the textures where made from scratch or from a photo the texture author took themselves, I really recommend using them for a commercial project as most of them will be edits (aka "derivative works") of textures from Doom, Hexen, Quake, Duke 3D, and who knows what else.Impulse101 wrote:Hello, old member who forgot his previous IDs here
I didn't know where to post what I'm about to ask, so I leave it here. Does these textures have some sort of license ?
I mean, I know that lots of these are used in mods for other games such as Duke 3D and Quake, so I was wondering if these textures could be used in an actual freeware game project instead of a mod ?
Thank you !
For a strictly freeware game it's probably okay because non-commercial, so the companies will just keep turning a blind eye to it; but if you have something like even just a Patreon advertized in the game, then... yeah.

Thanks for the clarification !
I think I'd stay away from edits and/or rips. Better safe than sorry, as they say.

Re: Custom Texture Thread.
I don't recall who originally made this (Cage?):

But I've seen it in loads of WADs so I decided to combine it (sort of) with FreeDoom's TEKWALL4:

Oh yeah, and:

Model so I can be under the cables and look straight up and still see something.
I think I still need to do a bit of work on the skin though. It doesn't look similar enough to the original texture.

Re: Custom Texture Thread.
Hey. I'm currently working on a small project for Hexen/Heretic, and decided to make a bunch of textures for it. I know these look really blurry, but that's just because I use them as stand-ins for hi-res versions. I decided to do it like this, so I won't have to resize all my textures in the editor. And also, if I want, I can just remove the hires folder to disable it.
For some of the finished textures I'm using some pbr material, and all the windows have brightmaps.
Trying an imgur url, since I can't post images directly.

So, I made this texture the other day, all-while I think it needs some cleaning up. I do think I did a good job.

You really did. I love the metal texture and crystal lens thing in the middle. Very shiny!

Re: Custom Texture Thread.
Spent about an hour doing Wolfenstein 3D-style crates based on FuzzballFox's custom crates. I've got a long way to go before I have a full set.
EDIT: Finished the base variants. No "shaded" versions are provided as of yet.
