Having played them "out of order", I see them as Doomish when playing Wolfenstein.Xaser wrote:Haha, nice -- you've managed to make something great-looking out of my least favorite Doom 2 texture (I simply can't see it out of Wolfenstein's context).
Some crystalline textures that fit in doom.

They definitely showed up in Quake. Someone here posted an image a long time ago showing the texture through the ages, including a Doom 3 jab in the form of a 128x128 black square.

Isn't ROCK4 (the one coming from Wolfenstein 3-D) also in Quake 1, in that specific green-yellow color? It's visible in E1M4 in the flooded cave.

Re: Some crystalline textures that fit in doom.
It was pretty much Id's favorite texture:
Wolfenstein:

Doom II:

Quake:

I kinda wish they had kept including it in Quake II, III, IV, Doom 3, Rage etc. as a sort of subtle easter egg.

Uh, pretty sure they did include it in Quake 2, at least. I can remember seeing it in a level full of fiend-like Mutants.

I don't know why id liked it so much, as it looked kinda bad until Quake. Maybe it's inclusion in Quake was to fix that!
