The hand's gonna need some shading. But aside from that, it's not bad.

As far as animating goes, you could probably go for the cheap route and make it so that after the muzzleflash sprites, the gun's recoil animation could just simply be the gun moving back via the offsets.

I'm having a bit of difficulty coming up with a suitable replacement for the shotgun. What I have at the moment is this monstrosity:

Image

Like many of the sprites which I'm now actually scrapping from this project entirely, this one is several years old (and it shows). Called the "shotrifle", it actually holds two shells in one barrel which are fired sequentially. I like the idea of a cross between a shotgun and a rifle but I don't know how to go about it. I'm no weapon designer (in fact pretty much all of the other weapons are, like the new enemies, incredibly simple design-wise), so any help in coming up with something better would be lovely. :)

(Oh and since I'm in a spoiler-y kind of mood, here are the finished paint gun sprites.)

Okay, this is sort of going somewhere, but there's something genuinely eww-worthy about this attempt that I can't quite pinpoint. I think I completely botched the gun's "design" anyway (I really don't know the first thing about ballistics). Could I have some assistance?

Lizard? Weasel? :P

Well, if you can't design it yourself, just steal the design from somewhere else :p. I would use an existing set of shotgun sprites as a base and then cartoonify it.

Looked okay at first glance but now that you mention it...

I think it's the tube thing on the bottom. The perspective seems a little different from the barrel so it's like it's sticking out to the left in a lopsided way.

Also... what is that thing? Ammo tube? Second barrel? Either way, it looks like the left hand is covering/hanging off the end of that tube in a way that seems kinda awkward to hold a gun.

As much fun as that would be (not to mention the time it could save), I'm aiming for as much aesthetic originality as possible with this mod.

Second barrel. It's a dumb top-and-bottom shotgun that fires two shots separately.

Anyway, I've made a couple of changes to it and added a muzzle flash.

I'm aware that the right hand looks wrong (where's the guy's trigger-finger), but my concern is the placement of the sights, and also the barrel opening - is it right for it to be on the side of the barrel there? :?

...I realize this mod should probably carry a bit of silliness with it, but I don't want the weapons to look completely [censored word]. :P

Left hand definitely looks better.

The sights' position looks fine, though it would be nice if they could somehow fit the "round" theme of the rest of the gun - maybe use a (large, exaggerated) ghost ring?

As for the ejection port... I'm too lazy to go through the motions of opening up Kolourpaint and Imgur and copypasting a link, so:

<[:__:]====
the = is barrel, the [::] is the action, the < is the hammer and the __ is the empty chamber.

Here's a round:
||D

which would fit into the chamber as follows:

<[:||D:]====

When you shoot, the bullet comes out:

<[:||_:]==== D

and then when you want to shoot again you'll have to empty the chamber of the spent casing:

||
<[:__:]====

and then load a new round:

<[:__:]====
||D

<[:||D:]====

Just keep that in mind when deciding where things should be located on the gun and any result should look reasonable.

Looks like I should move the ejection port to the body of the gun instead of having it on the barrel (which now that I think about makes nil sense). So the gun should look more like this:

That is a hell of a thick grip, unless you intended for it to be both a grip and a stock, in which case you'd really want there to be a place to put one's thumb for a more secure grip (either a thumb-hole or a more traditional-looking shotgun stock).
