THAT is what Square sounds like in my mind. (And yes, he always talks to Jimmy in his one-liners.)
The Adventures of Square - PROGRESS! New shots on pg.19!

Re: The Adventures of Square - DEMO UPDATED TO V1.1 finally
Have an update on the comic.
Pretty sure I'll be using the finished colored section as a title/intro panel. Add some text and better shading... it's done, but that can wait.
My initial plan for this thing was to replicate the well known Doom comic to some degree. Fighting monsters, get better guns, find big bad monster, run away, come back with HOLYSHITWTF-gun.
Now I'm not so sure. I'd like to hear what you guys have to say. Ideas? Thoughts? Should probably move any eventual discussions over here.
The latter half of the video has some sketches I grew quite fond of. Square pondering if he should just throw the gun into a pit and forget about the whole thing. (GASP!) He can apparently be a pretty sour dude.
It'd be fun to go down that route too, I imagine.

Re: The Adventures of Square - DEMO UPDATED TO V1.1 finally
OK, I confess. I'd not really paid much attention to this mod because something, and I'm not really sure what, didn't really appeal to me about it. However, I downloaded the demo/beta yesterday and played it through. It's a great little mod; much better than I was expecting. The colourful cartoony world has been very well realised and the relatively simple-looking enemies have been done in such a way that they are far better than the MS Paint-like characters that I was expecting. Despite their style, they have a depth and solidity that I was not expecting. What's more, even with its cartoony look, this is no easy mod and there are some pretty tough fights in there. All in all, it comes together to make a really nice, complete-feeling world and its a cracking TC.
My only complaint? I am useless at jumping puzzles, always have been, always will be. As a result, there were a number of sections that, despite repeated frustrating attempts, I just couldn't do and I had to cheat with in order to progress.

Slax: That's looking great so far. Really interesting to see the process behind all this awesome art.
Honestly I think something similar to the Doom comic would be fantastic. Would be cool to have him find the different paint-powered weapons, leading up to the biggest one (from single paintgun, to dual guns, to the oozi, to the paint cannon). Of course the "circle jerks" he'd encounter would get badder as his guns do.
Can't wait to see what else you do with it!
Enjay: Hehe, great review - thanks!
Sorry about the tricky platforming. That's something I personally can't quite get enough of.

It's probably going to be a very loose interpretation of the actual game. Think original Mega Man cover.

Spoiler: There's just no talking to circle jerks.Gotta find a comfortable design for this guy. Machete feels like a good fit at least.
Like the way you do bullet holes, Cap'n J. So I'm doing something similar.

Re: The Adventures of Square - PROGRESS! New shots on pg.2!
Progress on the "shareware episode" of The Adventures of Square is well underway!
Here is the first in what will hopefully be a monthly series of development journals in which you get to see the progress of the project as it unfolds.
A small team of mappers and artists has banded together to bring you the first installment of what will be a three-episode, stand-alone total conversion. We are aiming for a July 2014 release date, the time leading up to that consisting of map-making, texture and sprite design, bugfixing, gameplay balancing, and detail finetuning. We're making good progress and by my calculations it's looking like that date will stick.
Current active team:
Project creators: Jimmy, Baratus (aka Jimmybro)
Artists: Jimmy, Slax
Mappers: Matt Tropiano, Pavera, Alfonzo, Tarnsman, ClonedPickle
As you may notice from the avatar, the most immediately obvious change is that Square has a new face!
Also new items, weapons and monsters will join the fray!
Below you'll find some screenshots (most of which are WIP) of the new areas our rectangular rescuer will come across as he works his way through Shape Land in his pursuit of the dastardly Circles having kidnapped Dr Octagon.
old screenshots removed
And here's some more cool WIP shots of Pavera's Area 5: Caves map which won't fit in this post:

Thoughts? Comments? Criticism? Pies? Leave them below!

Re: The Adventures of Square - PROGRESS! New shots on pg.19!
I like what I'm seeing so far. I'm loving the screenshots of the city map and that deathmatch level. I'm glad you are still working on this. I can't wait to play these next maps.

July can't come soon enough. That's what I think.
