Game: TNT (Doom 2)
Port: GZDoom (Unfortunately, I'm making extensive use of 3D floors, so good old ZDoom will not be compatible) :cry:
Replaces Map(s): MAP01
New Graphics: Yes (not new to the community though)
New Sounds: Yes
New Sprites: Not yet (I may or may not pull monsters from the Realm667 Beastiary).
Credits: Tomentor667 (gradient color textures [for lights] ripped from Stronghold).
Release: N/A

Baronbecue is a single map PWad intended to be a remake of TNT Map02: Human BBQ. Consistent with TNT’s gameplay style, it will feature: intense battles and will quickly give the player better weapons and harder enemies. However, I’m bringing my creative skill to the table to make a much more detailed, larger scale map, with variations on the theme of TNT Map02 that will allow for a little less linear gameplay. However, it will still contain keys and a teleporter puzzle consistent with Human BBQ.

At this point I’m about 2/3 of the way through the master plan of the map layout, and only about 1/3 of the way through detailing.

I don’t know precisely when I’ll be releasing this (could be anytime in the next week or two... or three).

Any thoughts on compatibility with the Doom2 IWad? I don’t want to alienate people who don’t have TNT.wad, but I figure most people have it.

Also, I know there are HOM effects on some of the outdoor screenshots, that’s because I haven’t finished the courtyard where all the main action takes place (It’s over 2000x2500mp in size). :wink:

The last screenshot and a couple of the other ones with brick structures and walkways outdoors look interesting. I'm not sure why there are so many screenshots of flat, squarish rooms though.

Nice work so far, but many of the outdoor sections look rather plain. (just flat ground, might want to add some detail)

Also, your avatar looks a lot like Nash's. :P

Esselfortium: I'm getting really proud of that pool room; although, it still needs a lot of work on some of the walls, and I haven't started the ceiling yet. Some of the other rooms are a little square. :oops: Working on that. I'm carefully adding details to each area of the level, working towards more interesting geometry and structure.

Sodaholic: Thanks! The outdoor sections are incomplete, I only recently learned the triangle method of sloping terrain. Improvements are coming! The avatar thing has been pointed out, and I assure you, I had no clue when I joined the forum that Nash had an avatar like mine. I will admit, his is better. xD Also, I don't know Nash outside of ZDoom forums, might be a good thing to point out. Don't be confused. Maybe I'll change mine sometime, he was definitely here first.

Picture 6 and 7, isn't that a portal or true Room over Room?

Outside of the question, it looks rather nice. Squarish, yes. (I even suffered that from my maps, hence why I stopped mapping) but over all designed nicely. Can't wait untill I see more.

Ooh, looks good. :D I have to say, though, that you should probably have withheld the screenshots of the rooms which still need work. Less page loading time and we get an overall better impression of what the map should look like when done. :P I'm just nitpicking, though. :lol:

This looks awesome. But I think you need to have the hangin' corpses closer to the flames, especially in shot 5. Otherwise it doesn't look much like they're BBQin'.

I've updated the screenshots with more 'complete' rooms, but my mapping style doesn't produce truly completed rooms until the last few days of working on a map. However, I'm much closer now than I was before, having caught up detailing some of the rooms that I just laid out to get groundwork out of the way.

Even though it's not in any of the new screenshots, I have taken your advice and lowered the hanging corpses into the flames! Mwuhahahahahaha! :twisted:

In shot 2 where the bricks are missing on the wall, it would be cooler if you made the Greenish texture into a more brown dirt like one, and make a hole in it.

Something like this? :D

The idea of this area of the map is that the UAC base is slowly being corrupted by the demonic presence. The brick structures are being literally built into the UAC base to make it more hellish and evil. This kind of transition happens in several places throughout the map.

Update: 4 or 5 new screens of the area of the map which was originally the teleporter 'puzzle', it will be revamped in this version ending in an arena battle for the blue key. Ironically, in the original map, the blue key only existed to allow the player to gain access to the optional part of the map which included the original puzzle. I felt that the player should be required to do a little thinking before just skipping out of the map. I've posted an updated screenshot of the map in doombuilder as well. Enjoy.

Looks awesome. Literally all I can think of to describe this, from what I can see.

I'm probably nitpicking aswell, but I did think that the rooms with the slopes and all the green marble...well, I sorta think that the green marble is overused a bit. Just so you know I'm not clutching at straws, for example you could change the Green-Marble-Plus-Skulls on those platforms to Doom 2's White-Marble-Plus-Skulls. It would probably look a bit better, and because the skulls on that part of the texture are green as opposed to the rest of the texture being white marble, you would most likely only need to change the line textures.

Just my two cents on the matter. :|

P.S. Lol, you should change it from a human hanging over the barbeque part to one of those Tortured Baron props from Realm667. That would add new meaning to the 'Baronbeque' part. :)
