SPC's?

Post by ShAmp »

I hear you can play SPC's in Zdoom, but I couldnt figure out how. Do you have to load them as they are, or can you put them inside a wad, or both?

An SPC file is a 64k memory dump of the SNES's SPC7000 memory chip. Basically the SNES music format. AFAIK, you should be able to just use them as any other music format.. load it raw into a music lump and have ZDoom play it.

You mean SNES as in Super Nintendo? If so, how do you get music off a game cartrige?

[notzdoomrelated]How do i make a .rom file from an SNES (or any cartrige) cartrige?[/notzdoomrelated]

EDIT: I would love to get the music from Super Mario World...

There are devices that take the game cartidges and allow you to create "back ups".. can't think of any off hand, though. As for getting the music, nowadays you'd probably just load the game into an emulator and copy the relevant memory section to a file.

And Google for Zophar's Domain if you want SNES music. You can even find the music from the SNES Doom port there.

you can rip your own in almost any emulator these days, they seem to work similar to MIDI's, and there are good programs to play them, even a plugin for WinAmp that seems to work real well. And yeah, Zophars Domain has hundreds of games soundtracks ripped (http://www.zophar.net) and thats why i ask, because i like the SNES Doom Music better, so i want to figure out how to run SPC's. Intserting them raw didnt seem to work before, but i'll give it another try, if anyone else knows how let me know. Thanx

You need to take the snesapu.dll that comes with SNESAmp and put that in your ZDoom directory. Then SPCs will play like any other music.

ZDoom wrote: This snesapu.dll is too new. It is version 2.00.
It supports DLLs back to 1.10.
ZDoom is only known to support DLL versions 0.95 - 1.01
What now?

EDIT: After removing the version check and recompiling ZDoom worked with this newer DLL so why doesn't it want to originally?

That's because the last time I updated SPC support, 1.01 was the current version of snesapu.dll. This DLL reports itself as only being fully compatible with DLL version 1.10, so ZDoom can't assume it will work, even if the changes are related to functions ZDoom doesn't use.

So far it works without any problems for me. I tested 10 different songs and all worked perfectly. I'm going to check more because there's some interesting stuff I could use with certain PWADs.

Hmm... Maybe the Super Mario World's title screen music could liven up a level...
