Yeah both would be nice, but if you had to go with just one then maybe go with the status bar. I'm really not a fan of the helmet hud, mostly because it blocks the view of the weapons.

I don't understand... Are you trolling me, or are you a new user? I used that file as a base, so I know everything it contains. And no, there aren't many interesting sprites. Check Alpha 0.2 and 0.4 WAD files, and there ARE very interesting things.
allan94 wrote:I think it should start with nothing and then in the room with the dead marines you find a rifle and a pistol.
I was thinking something like that, because I cannot decide yet how to include the Pistol/Rifle, so I'm currently open to ideas.
allan94 wrote:This was my 12 year old son's idea,so how does his idea sound?
Dude, I'm not meaning to offend, but YOU write like a 12 years old. Plus, your username has 94, which for some reason suggests me your year of birth... :?
Also, learn how to quote properly.
allan94 wrote:I think you should stick with the helmet HUD.
No, the user will be free to choose, so they don't hate me for acting like a dictator :P
Xaser wrote:Make one the fullscreen HUD, and another the status bar HUD. Why choose?
I already did that in the past, but it causes a few aesthetic problems, as you cannot see your currently selected weapon, and in some resolution modes, the letters of the default ZDoom fullscreen hud can be seen under the Helmet graphics, so I think having an option in the menu to choose between the two was the best idea yet ([wiki]MENUDEF[/wiki]). The only problem is that you have to include a new CVAR into your zdoom.ini, but it will come with a first-time-launcher.

@wildweasel yes for the status bar, no for the helmet (it uses the old school ACS method).

The game should have both the pistol and standard rifle (I mean, why be picky). Though if you start out, at least give the marine character a side-arm like the pistol and then he eventually finds the rifle like a upgrade/seperate weapon.

How is that relevant?

Anyway, other than the fact that the rifle presumably comes with a bayonet, is there any actual difference between the rifle and pistol? (if you decide to include both)

I would figure the rifle have a slower rate of fire, but the shots are more powerful and has a higher accuracy than other bullet based weapons. And a bayonet just in case the demons get too close.

I'm thinking of something to make it different (other than the obvious sprite difference). Maybe the pistol to do ridiculously low damage, but used only when all other weapons have ran out of ammo.

I think it will actually have the same rate of fire as the pistol (or maybe faster), but of course more damaging. The chaingun has to be the strongest clip-based weapon IMO.

Let's keep that out of this thread, if we can, thank you.

My main concern now is:
What do you suggest to be the starting state of the player?

What I have here now is:
Bayonet, Assault Rifle, full health and 40 bullets.

Do you really want the pistol to be added, or should it be forgotten completely?

Scrap the pistol, the rifle more than takes its place.

1.- Yeah, I will remove the pistol. Mostly because I gave a deeper lecture to the Doom Bible, and Tom calls the rifle the "Machine Pistol", and the Officer's Pistol (normal pistol) was a non-vital element (section 7.3.2). So, the probiectile will be an attachment to the rifle much like the bayonet.

2.- I considered using them to give a "beta feel" to it, but honestly, they suck. :D

Are you going to have other things from the beta, like the pickup sprites, lost soul etc ?

Yes, the bonus items will be these:

-Blood Receptacle (1000)
-Demonic Dagger (2500)
-Skull Chest (5000)
-Evil Sceptre (7500)
-Chi Gem (10000)
-Unholy Bible (50000)

The beta Lost Souls will be present, however the damage they do will be reduced, because instant damage seems a bit unfair...
