Which is why, of course, all or most of the original founders have left Blizzard and went to new companies in the past 6 months.

By simply looking in my avatar, you would know that I'm a Blizzard game fan. As far as I know, only Warcraft III and WoW are their only games that could not run on old PC's. Diablo II for example has a minimum processor requirement of Pentium 2, but I was able to install and play it smoothly on a Pentium 1 laptop, which make me think that Blizzard programmers could create powerful game engines.

Valve onthe other hand didn't even bother that you could not even spawn the machine gun on the console. Just like arioch said, they are now only focusing on their hit mod Counter-Strike. I actually own a CS: Condition Zero and I like all the modifications they did to it specially to the console box.

I'm getting WoW when it comes out. It'll be the first MMORPG I've ever had. The only reason I'm buying it is because Blizzard made it.

Lexus: Blah, CS blows. :P You want this.

Ix: WoW is not going to be any different from MMORPG's like EverQuest, except for its signature cartoony graphics style. The major flaw with most MMORPG's, IMHO, is that there's no purpose to them whatsoever. You create a character, then you go out and kill things for no good reason (because they're there, I guess), or participate in quests that keep getting done over and over by various newbies without any visible change to the world. This is all done in the interest of getting your character experience and items. Why? So that he can get higher level, and get better items, so that he can hunt bigger things, and get a higher level, and find better items, and hunt bigger stuff so he can get a higher level, and better items, so he can hunt bigger things and get a higher level, and better items, repeat ad nauseum. There is literally no point to the game. Once you hit the highest level, there's nothing left to do until they release an expansion ($29.95) which raises the high level by 5. Then you buy it, go out and find some higher creatures, so you can level up and get better items......

Seriously, what's the point?

If you want to try a good MMORPG with a point, then hop over here. Yes, it shares alot of this "killing shit and levelling" with other such games, but the shit, as often as not, is other players, and doing so actually has a point. Plus, it looks 10 times better than any screenshots or videos I've seen of WoW.

A friend of mine plays a futuristic online RPG game. He, and his team mates, are pretty good at it by all accounts. When they get together, they pull of some significant things and make a difference to the complexion of the world (apparently). However, the problem he has found is that he and his online partners are real people, with real lives and can therefore only play at the weekends. They achieve all this great stuff, gain power and wealth (or whatever the goals are) then disappear for 5 days, when their characters wouldn't have whilst some donut munching, coke swilling socially dysfunctional geek, nominally doing a course in media management, sits in a computer lab 24 hours a day eroding what they have achieved simply because he is able to put in more hours.

Haha thats a brilliant analogy. If only there was some way to avoid that...

Mind you, putting some kind of limit on it would destroy the whole buisness model.

That is unfortunately a problem with DAOC as well. The "power realm" of the server will go on a valiant attack against the evil enemy realm, overtaking several enemy keeps and towers and plunging deep into enemy territory to steal the greatest prize of all: the enemy relics. After the celebration dies down, the victors wander off to sleep, etc. Then, at 4 am, the other guys come over and take everything back. :P

I've jokingly suggested that they disallow keep/relic taking after 2am EST, but that would be unfair to our European players. :)

Online RPGs make no sense to me. The whole point is to follow a captivating storyline, and kick some ass in the process.

Then again, I just got a glimpse of FFX-2. I was sorely disappointed by what I saw.

Oh well, my pool table comes in a week.

That may have been the intent with MMORPGs originally, but it's not anymore. Oh don't get me wrong, there are plenty of "quests" you can complete, usually with a nice back story if you care, but most people don't. If you're expecting a linear game with an epic storyline, look elsewhere.

My post may have been confusing; I like the storyline, and it's just missing in online RPGs. Which means that the online RPGs have absolutely no appeal to me at all. But that's why I've never bought one.

Lexus: CS started as a half-life mod and was a free download. I believe it's still that way, but I haven't touched it in years. It was a lot of fun way back in beta, but I've heard it has gone far downhill.

I understood your post and was making sure you understood that the reason the storyline is missing is because they don't attempt to put one in.

It may seem like it is "teh kewl" until you try TrueCombat. Then you'll realize how much it really sucks.
