The human actually has that unusual X-COM like feeling to it.

Because the last one was made in 5 minutes, so it was kinda clumsy. I tried to keep it very close to the original this time.
That's awesome, but he still looks like he has a tiny foot. You might need to take some "artistic liberties" to fix that... Then again, maybe not.

I apologize for suddenly hopping on the bandwagon, and Im in no way trying to take credit for anything, however, I went ahead and did this for the hell of it.
Spoiler:
Just dirtied it up and added some crisp detail and shading.

This looks awesome, perhaps a 'clean' and a 'dirty' version of these? I really like the look.

Just remember the impaled guy's right leg, where there are some 90 degree angles towards his boot.

That's a nice edit, I didn't like some areas but overall it's really good. Of course, we coudn't use it. I love it, we couldn't use it because it doesn't match the other sprites :lol: If 1 sprite is like that, they ALL would have to be. Well here's something to think about:

-Anyone is welcome to join the team, even if you don't make the sprites themselves, you get credit as a sprite editor.

-Also I've been thinking about stuff like that, adding detail, and well maybe after we're done with the sprites we're gonna touch them up anyway, so they look as nice as possible. We're just not doing it now because well it'd be a waste of time if the sprites don't even get finished, so it's more important they get done first, and afterward we can think of editing them with little details here and there. Still though, that idea has crossed my head now, and adding detail really isn't all that hard, so I'm sure I'll be trying once in a while.

EDIT: Just 1 more thing, don't shade that much, because it removes some of the nice colors meant to be in the sprites. It's nice to have frightening sprites, but Doom is actaully bright and filled with color, it's not supposed to be scary-as-hell like Doom64. Hehe, Doom64 hi-res sprites are another great idea, maybe our 2nd project...
EDIT2: 'blabla 2nd project' just joking about that :lol: Also, it mgiht be a while before I get more to post. It'd be nice if some people here decided to help the team, and maybe edit to attempt a better sprite. Of course, that edit to my "impaled human" is a perfect example, and if we got enough help, all sprites could end up with that height of detail. Well, hopefully I can post soon...

Thanks, I agree that over-detail would not in any way blend with Doom, personally I like the low res, no filtering style of Doom, its what I grew up with, I just added detail for my own amusement, haha.

Edit: Finished the sprite.
Spoiler:
Say, is this something you'd like to see more of?
Because I'm pretty much making three layers of shading, except for things like horns and such. That get one. This takes a bit of time, so I'm asking whenever you fellas over here like it.

I'm probably going to the..

I really like the way that turned out, but wont the anti-aliased edges mess with the sprite transparency pallete? Or is there some sort of way around that?

Transparency works normally in ZDOOM.
I made a motion blur effect by using transparency and it worked perfectly.

He is gonna have to clean up and trim them before he is done, in order to get rid of the "bleeding". that wouldn't be too hard.

TO PEOPLE who love detailing and such: As you can see, we kinda are indeed adding more detail :D

@Ghost, although that was too much detail for DOOM, THANKS for that demonstration. I guess you've inspired us to make the little details. I'll add detail to my impaled human, and also my OTHER sprites, which I guess look a little too simple :lol:

@Blox, great work there.

--@Everyone, don't worry about the edges, those are easily sharpened and cleaned, that's the least important thing to do, so it's obviously going to be the last thing we do :wink: (not that it's unimprtant, I know you don't want to see random fuzz along the borders)

-well okay, those drawn in stuff are nice, I'll be for them now 8-)

Pardon my repeated bumping, though as far as I know - bumping with content is legal. *hinthint* :roll:
Back on track, what do you folks think about stuff like this?;
Spoiler:
I'm just asking around, as I'm trying to find the 'most liked' of the methods I use. This one has a shitload (no less) of painted shading.
I'll admit it's kinda noisy, but that shouldn't be a problem; as they're supposed to get downsized anyway.
