I've always assumed that Cacodemons have various pockets inside their bodies which are filled with hot air, which is what allows them to float.

I always thought they used Satanic Powers...like in "Phantasm" or something.

Well then, that's the kind of thing I'm planning on making.

-Only problem is, getting the others to like it. Ironically, they like the others at the moment more... so since at the moment this is experimental, I'll make some of the others, BUT, I think I'll make some more of these at the moment as well.

NOTE: And as far as symmetry, --> This was a test, I just mirrored half the Cacodemon I edited  YES, most sprites won't have mirroring, considering they are placed differently, it just so happened that the Caco is symmetrical... lol you can tell I mirrored it because the eye has 2 white "shine" dots, which there should only be 1 of.

-So, is this really the kind of sprite we should make?

EDIT: Also, yes, hi-res HUD sprites would be nice too, the idea (at least for me) is that those should be made too, after monsters and decoration.
--As far as 4x hi-res textures, those can be made by shrinking the super-hi-res texture pack textures, to better match the sprites we make
-Heh, just a little more, as I did myself consider this sprite a huge step forward: I too think the Caco looks like he's covered in air-sacks or something  Id did take the head off a monster, but the air-sacks really give it a Sci-fi reason to fly! :)

This caco and the Vader demon are awesome, I like detail with my increased resolution.

Well I'm glad you like them, because now I do to.

-A little something here: I was stubborn at first...

Anyway, I'll crack up a Demon, but I'm going to keep the classic look to him, even with high detail, I want to keep the original look as much as possible.

-Oh also, the detailing process is made AFTER the hi-res reshaping, so any sprites that are donated can be trasnformed :)

One critique: The lower, corner teeth seem to have shrunken to near nonexistence.

Demon and Caco looks very nice and, what is very important, its true to the original. You must put lots of work for this. I wonder how would be look a Doom marine sprite in this resolution.

I'm not exactly sure, I look at the first Caco and then the second and I see the teeth the same. Pardon my bad understandings(as you know  ), but I'm more a visual person... I'd need a picture, like the one Justin made, to see the problem... otherwise I'd just say "There's nothing there." Just asking, I'd like to get this Caco read to go, so you're critiques are much accepted :)

-Anyway, something different: I will start on the Imp. NOW, I know many people have their own views of him/her/it, but I'm going to at least attempt making something close to Id Software's view of it:
Spoiler:
To be frank, Id Software's Imp art is better than any other online.
-Okay so, I just started on this whole "details" thing, so my end result will be Very different... I just hope it's "Imp-like"

And of course, thanks to certain repeated request, I'll try a HUD weapon too.

EDIT:

YES, the thing I want to see the most is the player! How kick-ass will it be to play multiplayer with these graphics!!? VERY. I'll get started on the player as well, which ALSO I'll look at the DOOM2RPG sprite for a guide, because I said so.

I love that Imp picture! The Doom2 RPG stuff took a lot of flack but I find them on the whole to be pretty charming. Doom IS cartoony by today's uber-realistic models and lighting. I don't have a problem with that. And remember guys, this is YOUR project. While taking some criticism on board is a good thing don't let the pedantry push you off your path too much... :)

A NEW PROBLEM: Well the Cacodemon edit I made is now the kind of thing I want to make, but Blox and Pelle don't
seem to like it, so I'm at a problem here. I now want to make sprites with realistic shade
and "shine"(specular), but they want too keep them looking flat, but want to add intense levels of
detail.

-Here's what I mean:

What Blox is going for:Image

What I'm going for:Image

-Both styles are great, but I preferr the Cacodemon's style because it uses 3D-style shading and specular("shine"). Blox and Pelle at the momend preffer a flat look, but with tons of details drawn.

-Their view right now is that keeping them original means using the same colors, but adding tons of details which are their view of them, and My view is that keeping them original means keeping the Exact shape and look, as well as keeping a low level of detail, because Doom IS a cartoon-style game, so the graphics must keep it so, but by adding the shade and specular that I add the Caco got a really great 3D-style effect, and I love it.

-BOTTOM LINE: Which style is better? Answers needed!

IMO Blox. I think that is a bit better style to go for in a project like this. It just feels more Doomy to me.

The Baron has a stippled look which looks more like JPEG artifacts than detail to me.

Look closely at the corner of the mouth on the left half of the first sprite. While it's unfinished, the lip (which you can see on the right half) covers up mosty of the lower teeth in the corner. (Yellow arrows point this out.)

Also, the purple arrow points out another issue to avoid: Long straight edges like this are going to stand out. Make the sprite boundary a bit bigger if you must, so long as it's more rounded.

As much as I like the cacodemon, I like Blox's sprite style better. Since the sprites are 2d anyways, I don't see how being flat is a problem.

The baron has cut off edges at a few joints. Look closely.

Okay, now what I see is that the "right" half has giant gums, which don't show the teeth :) Thanks for catching that.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

As for the problem here, I'm still very open to thoughts, I myself like BOTH styles, but I really like the Caco's shine... not that it matters, I'd like more imput on ideas.
-Try not to look at the little things that can be fixed in the sprites, but rather look at the "style," wether flat or not, things like that...
-this is hard for me :|
