Help For a Friend with Glitchy Graphics :)

Post by Per-Scan »

A friend of mine has a problem with his installation of Skulltag. I know it's not exactly ZDoom per se but I respect your guys' opinions a little more! He has a fairly old P4 PC with an Intel graphics card (not sure what). He's also running XP SP3. What would cause this?

Could it be a fried GPU or is it something else? I haven't a clue!

Looks like a bogus/glitchy PLAYPAL and/or COLORMAP... Make sure he isn't autoloading anything.

If he's running in OpenGL, have him try it in Software mode.

He's banned and you no longer need to worry about him?

Whenever I see those words, my suspicions always point me in that direction. Intel graphics card have a deservedly horrible reputation for poor performance, bad drivers and incorrect implementations of supposedly supported features.

As a matter of interest, can he get it to run properly windowed? I know someone with an Intel card and that helped some of their similar problems with other games.

Mind you, looking closer, a lot of the colours there do seem to be ones in the Doom palette. Perhaps it is just a messed up colormap.

Perhaps his Iwad's colormap got all screwed up. Check the last modified date of all his Iwads and report it to us. Does this happen on all games? If the Iwads haven't been modified since the 90's, you could try turning on the direct x pallete hack in the display options and see if that does any good.

Offtopic, avgn got banned? When did this happen, and how? (besides his stupid posts, did he start a flamewar or something, or did I miss anything?)

EDIT: Actually I just read his last few posts and I see what happened. Such irony. :P

offtopic- I think they're talking about wwwooshher

But anyway maybe an IWAD ended up in that person's /skins folder somehow and is messing up the palette.

Sure they didn't mean AVGN? Did you read the last 2 pages of the What the Hell Are You Working On thread? (not really sure that that's banworthy on it's own, but god damn is he annoying in general)

-----

About the palette issues, I'm sure it's color map related if not the computer itself being a little messed up. As I said, check to see if the Iwads have been edited (not sure how that would've happened, but I'm just checking for possibilities), and if that's not what's causing this, turn the DirectX palette hack on, it's worked for me on a few older crappy computers. (it looked like the screen posted)

Thanks everyone for your help and suggestions. I've passed on the info to him and I'm sure I'll find out soon enough if he gets it working properly. Thanks again (so far!) :)
