Re: Hacx 2.0 -- Now in Development!
Hey, sorry for the slight bump, but I was playing HaCX and i noticed that even in the original, the rocket launcher replacement thing seemed out of place (was obviously a 3D render turned into a sprite), so i tried my hand at giving it a more HACX-ish look.
Not sure if you already have somebody working on those sprites, but here's the first frame I did just in case. If you wanted to use it, i could probably do the rest of the frames too.

That does look pretty good -- perhaps a bit more definition on the numbers, but otherwise a full set would be awesome. Those particular sprites haven't been touched just yet, though the more pressing issue is figuring out how to make 'em widescreen.

Definitely, considering I never realized until now that they are numbers. Just looked like weird glowing space-runes or something.Xaser wrote:numbers

Haha yeah, I thought pretty much the same. But yeah, there are a couple parts i could touch up now that I look at it, I'll do that as I get with the rest of the frames.NeuralStunner wrote:Definitely, considering I never realized until now that they are numbers. Working on a wide-screen version of the first frame before I do anything else. It's obviously not finished yet, but I thought i'd see if there's anything that you'd like to see added.
(For the record, the top part slides along the rail in the back upon firing)

Looks great, the slide obviously needs shading still. The only tips I can give is to do something about the hologram(?) numbers and actually draw out it even further to the right so that there absolutely can't be any cuts happening even if you have some crazy ass aspect ratio.

Haha yeah. Problem with the numbers/runes/hologram(?) is that I can't really define/detail it or move it or anything until i can really figure out just what the hell it is. But yeah, shading obviously needs to be finished up on the back of the slide, and tweaked a little bit elsewhere..+:icytux:+. wrote:Looks great, the slide obviously needs shading still. Re: Hacx 2.0 -- Now in Development!
They're not holograms. The numbers are made out of metal protrusions, directly part of the casing. The green light on their lower edges somehow comes from the glowy green thing on the lower part of the gun -- either the shape of the gun is playing tricks on people's eyes, or the renderer used to make the source picture from a model was a bit glitchy in its light collision algorithms. Or maybe the green shine is reflecting off the hacker's suit and from there off the numbers.
Anyway it doesn't make sense but it doesn't matter. Seems the number is "z-35" by the way.

It's definitely a metal protrusion with some odd light reflection. I see 2-35 myself, but either works.
Nice work thus far! It does seem to match the pickup sprite okay (which admittedly needs some cleaning up anyhow).

If it were a 2, it would be as tall as the 3 and its top wouldn't be flat.

I'd just remove the numbers, personally.

But it'd look a bit empty, unless you find some other greeble to add.

How about an engraving? Come up with some techno-babble to put on it, like "Photonic Shaped-Charge Launcher Z-23"?Gez wrote:But it'd look a bit empty, unless you find some other greeble to add.

Re: Hacx 2.0 -- Now in Development!
Having noted some of the observations on here, i finally noticed just what the numbers are and quickly did some shading to make them more prominent so that they're recognizable for what they are. Obviously needs more work (the 5 doesn't seem to be as high as the other two numbers/letters, and the shading/lighting needs more consistency), but it was just a quick tweak so that I don't forget they exist.

I... I have NEVER noticed that there were numbers, I always just saw bits of some alien language or something. :O
