Decompile fonts?
Is there any way to decompile font lumps back into their native format? I'd like to edit a font but I don't have the source images.
Re: Decompile fonts?
What type of font? If it's a ZDoom-supported [wiki]font format[/wiki], then you can use SLADE3 to see it as a picture. Then I guess you'll have to convert as PNG, export and cut it up yourself. If SLADE3 gets a font editor it'll be able to extract each letter individually but at the moment it was simpler to me to just recompose the glyphs into a single image.

I believe it's one generated by Spidey's font creator thingy. I'll give SLADE3 a go.

Re: Decompile fonts?
Okay I converted it to a PNG but it just dawned on me that I would have no idea what to do next after editing them. Can I use spidey's tool to convert them back into the font format? Do I have to arrange the letters in a certain way?

I'm certain there's a command for the font compiler tool that to convert a font to it's source image. I could swear I used it in the past.

Re: Decompile fonts?
Okay, here's KINSIE'S SUPER COOL TUTORIAL FOR MAKING FONTS.
1.) Open Spidey's font tool.
2.) Close it and fucking delete it because I know this is for your Megaman mod and Spidey's tool is useless for anything other than gargantuan TTF conversions. Also if you use TTF fonts for pixel-fonts in a faux-retro game so help me god
3.) Download Imagetool and READ THE README because it is a console tool so you'll have to use the command line or batch files to use it!
4.) Either convert the font you want to a PCX and go to town on it in Photoshop, or choose one of the two given example PCXes (based on what you want to use it for) and edit that.
5.) Compile to format, import into WAD, save, test, dinner.

Re: Decompile fonts?
Thanks! Finally, I can dick around with the source material now. Unfortunately though I can't make an 8-bit font less eye rape without making it look out of place. I might need to look into hi-res fonts to get past the 8x8 limit.
Re: Decompile fonts?
You could look into some of the BMFs that I've compiled in this topic. Not surprisingly, many (though not all) of them are from classic 8-bit games.

I'm guessing ST won't support these for some time though
