The Still New What Did You Last Do Thread

If it's not ZDoom, it goes here.

Tell me which image URL is instantly recognizable:
  • screenshots/doom/tnt_map01_start.jpg
  • ughblarg.jpg

I think I'm going to have to. The lack of alternatives is still alarming.

(I have a webspace but don't consider it a viable option, because I'm not willing to flood Wartorn's server with thousands of image download requests an hour.)

But da Imgur is EVIL!!1! It poisons our society and our children!

Anyway you can see the rest of the images you've uploaded even if they've been bumped, just go to "youraccount.imgur.com/all" and then sort them in ascending order.

For the subject at hand, though, sincerely Imgur is not the best option for Neuralstunner so I guess he should choose Dropbox.

But as far as I know Dropbox doesn't like when you hotlink an image or something

rants about game breaking bugs and people completely uneducated about various topics
Yeah I keep running into people who aren't aware you can copy the contents of a chest in vanilla Minecraft in creative mode now, which completely alters what the heaviest item in Minecraft is to a chest full of chests full of chests... full of chests full of the previously heaviest item in Minecraft. To which everyone seems to reply "ender chests don't work that way" because they assume you can't put a full set of chests inside a chest.

Well they certainly haven't bitched to me, and my everything is hotlinked.
For maximum hotlinking a public folder is great, because then you directly link to the file in question, be it audio, Image an image or just random data.

I'm pretty sure there's a bandwidth cap of like 20 GB/day, but good luck hitting that unless you're smart enough to host extremely popular and large files.

I'm unsure how much daily traffic I would accumulate hosting avatars from there across several forums. I wonder if hotlinked images count toward the download limit?

If they're loaded they will, but a 1 MB large file would have to be downloaded 20480 times (most browsers cache things unless configured not to, so most viewers only download an image once.
A 40 KB image would hit the download limit instead, and it would be damn hard to hit that.

and i'm not even sure whether it's "20 GB of bandwidth from all files in total" or "20 GB of bandwidth for a single file" since they don't define "link" very well

tl;dr as long as your avatar isn't like 1.6 MB but more like 70 KB you're more than fine

Designing an open-world is fun. It can change a simple, straight-forward doom-shooter into a DoomRL-Arsenal-like, reach the limits of a hub with ease, which leeds to the need of user-variable-abuse, and also quadruple the amount of different enemies needed, because it's boring if you keep progressing in the story, keep getting better weapons and stats, and then you'd just face the same old guys.

SSAO in modern games is starting to look stupid. It's supposed to only partially darken any surfaces that are in close proximity to each other... not engulf every object with thick black borders like in cartoons. I first noticed this in Far Cry 3 and then it seems almost every modern game now is drawing SSAO that way. I think the very first Crysis game was the only one that got SSAO correct... so subtle but added so much depth to the rendered scenes.

I think it's a real damn shame that this guy got banned fast because I played the demo and I thought it was pretty impressive on a technical level and an overall cool project. Would have loved to see it develop and finish on these forums... but rules are rules I guess.

Considering what the guy did to get banned in the first place (which was exceedingly rude, calling users "cock suckers" and otherwise privately harassing anybody who dared badmouth his projects), I'm not sure it's really worth keeping him around.

ooooh, now that was the guy who got banned so fast that told by shivers in skype. btw, indeed it is a damn shame, because believe me or not, his coding and animation was really decent and interesting since he posted the doom rivalry; known as the victim of the samsara's ideal stealing(unnecessary but informative joking moment). either his 3d models and map, too.

and yes, i never liked him since he was being an hella ass. even some of assholes have talents or skills, assholes are assholes.

I capped the FPS on GZDoom using RivaTuner. The input lag is dead, and my graphics card can remain ice cold.

I don't know why, but on large maps (tested on Plasmaplant) it feels choppy, even though GZDoom's FPS counter stays almost continuously at a 60.

I'm not a huge fan of SSAO. It does give scenes more depth, but most of the time it makes everything look like it's covered in JPEG artifacts. Always worried my video card is overheating until I realize I left SSAO on. :p

Been messing around with Toxikk in offline matches against bots. Feels a lot like an Unreal Tournament 3.5. It's pretty nice, and for early-access it feels really polished. It's missing a few important things, but it's coming along very well.
