[NEW SCREENS!] Enneagon: Deathmatch Edition -- Final stage

Projects that have specifically been abandoned or considered "dead" get moved here, so people will quit bumping them. If your project has wound up here and it should not be, contact a moderator to have it moved back to the land of the living.

Will you be willing to play on ST in a couple of weeks in an organised release server?

[NEW SCREENS!] Enneagon: Deathmatch Edition -- Final stage

Post by Dragonfly »

Hey guys, long time no see!
I've been inactive for.. well, too long. So, to bring myself back into the community, I've started a one-man

project, for Skulltag's deathmatch mode. It's currently titled 'Enneagon'.
Image
This is because:

* The name is pretty cool
* And it means a nine-sided shape, or in this case, nine.

I'm taking on the whole concept of the number nine because I'm making 9 deathmatch maps.
I plan to make 9 maps in other game-modes, hopefully amounting to 9 sets of 9 maps. I'm too lazy to attempt to accomplish this.
I'm assuming you're probably sick of reading the number 9; so here are some screenshots! :)
(Please note, many things can be changed from these screenshots and the final product.)

Map - D2DM1:

778 Verices
1028 Linedefs
1793 Sidedefs
276 Sectors
65 Things

As it stands D2DM6 is still only 60-70% finished, and the other 3 maps aren't started yet.
I have a void map planned for the ninth slot, but I'm after inspiration for 2 themes for slots 7 and 8, so please throw your ideas down by posting here :)

I'm also looking for more beta-testers. As it stands I already have one, but the more the merrier. If enough people show interest I'll just place the link so it's accessible by the public.

Please leave any comments or criticisms, I'd love to get some feedback on this. :D

FINAL STAGE! - I'm modifying each map to suit the responses I've received. This means that D2DM3 will be heavily reworked, I think. D2DM5'S Railgun area will be totally destroyed and re-made. D2DM6 Will become larger, with a dining room and maybe a reception area, depending on if I agree with the idea of it becoming a hotel. And new Enneagon computer screens will be added to all maps.

This looks rather nice Josh, nicely detailed, but some shots look a little dark, and others a little cramped. Of course, I can't really tell what the gameplay would be like from the screenshots, so I hope this turns out good :)

Thanks, StarScream. If you'd like to test this to get a better judgment, I'd be more than happy to upload the .pk3 and PM you a link. :)

Thank you, Eriance. :)

I have a theme set for map D2DM7: Underwater.
I've considered a low-gravity moon based theme for D2DM8, can anyone give input on these ideas?

Also, I should hopefully finish D2DM6 by the end of the weekend. :)

Thank you, Recurracy! I'd be sure to play it online with you. I'll have a skulltad server running the pk3 when I've finished creating then bug-testing the project. :D

I'll pre-emptively alert any challengers about my terrible deathmatch skills. :P
I've already been owned on the first 3 maps of the project when I ran a day-long server, so don't worry. :)

Wow, I knew people joined that server but I had no idea they were on the ZDoom forums too!

Thanks for being an unofficial betatester, Mikk-! I'm glad you enjoyed it. :)

*bump*
Hey guys, D2DM6 is finished!
I'll upload screens along with some screenshots of D2DM7, a castle themed map when I finish it. I'll begin mapping it tomorrow, hopefully. On that note, thank you to those who voted. I will be doing castle and void maps for sure. It's likely d2dm8 will be underwater, but I'd like the public's take on it.

Now that I have reached my 2nd milestone, 6/9 maps done; I am taking offers on testers, so if you fancy having a look, post here and I'll PM you a link. :)

Before I throw my ideas at you... I'm hoping this will add more competition to skulltag, and increase the activity.

And now...

I noticed you have a bit of everything, like say Blood's spooky theme, a nature theme (mountains with triangle shapes :D), some hi-tech stuff and all that. What came into my mind was this... A chinatown ! (Get Okinowwa here!!) Hell, with some textures from Shadow Warrior, you can even make great volcanic maps.

I'm interested in looking at the castle map too. I personally haven't seen many castle themed DM maps.

Void... that sounds interesting. What have you planned for "void" ? (Now a timefreeze power would be appropriate to put in there :) )

Last idea, snowy. Maybe somewhere with icy mountains and little villages to get weapons of mass destruction !!!!

Apart from these, I actually want to see an underwater themed refinery/hi-tech base/station or whatever :) Good luck with this.

Thank you for your input oODemonologistOo!

First off, your take on the underwater map is exactly what I had in mind, with the whole tech base part. :)
I dislike snowy levels, they aren't fun to map or fun to play in my opinion, but that's just down to me.. :P
Void, I was thinking Nullspace junior (1024.wad) or Simplicity, I'm not too sure as of yet, just be sure not to fall off ;)

Edit:

Oh, and Chinatown.. I like the concept, and I'd probably do that one day, but as it stands it's a no-go. :| The laptop I use for mapping (coincidentally, for everything else, too.)isn't really powerful enough to handle the 3D floors I'd -NEED- to use. There's no way I could avoid 3D floors unless I made a rather shitty looking Chinatown, lol. :D
