Re: [Project] Obscure FPS Resources
I came across a silly game named Ashes To Ashes: Feeding The Fires Of War! and the graphics aren't too bad. By looking in the game folder I found that the music is stored in MIDI format in one of the subfolders. It isn't that great, but perhaps someone could get use for it.
http://www.mediafire.com/?fyjrh4sgaafv364
The graphics seem to be stored in a .CRS file, because it's the biggest file in the folder (around 18 megs, while most of the others are not even 500 KB). According to this site, "CRS file is a Corel WordPerfect Document Conversion Resource. Conversion Resource file aids in converting documents to WordPerfect 5.0 format.". I looked at the Corel website and didn't find any wordperfect program but there are various image editing programs, so perhaps they'll be able to read the file...
Is anyone willing to look at this? Also, am I allowed to post the .CRS file on here, or is it lolillegal?

I already tried with partial success. I managed to cut out a part of sprites and textures from it. There are problems with a palette and more. Later I will post that it was possible to take.CKeen wrote:I came across a silly game named Ashes To Ashes: Feeding The Fires Of War! and the graphics aren't too bad. Not that game files frequently use extensions without much care if these same extensions are used by something else. I strongly doubt a wordperfect conversion thingy would be used as a container for game graphics...

Ah nice. Are those screenshots or did you manage to extract them from the game itself?Diodeus wrote:I already tried with partial success. I managed to cut out a part of sprites and textures from it. Also, does anyone know how to read Amulets & Armor sprites? SLADE3 doesn't seem to be able to do it, and same goes for XWE.

I don't even know where the A&A sprites are located. If I knew which file to investigate, maybe I could do something...

Re: [Project] Obscure FPS Resources
There is a folder called WEAPONS so I figured the sprites had to be there. Indeed, there are folders with the names of the various weapons. But the sprites (if those are sprites) appear to be in .MXI format. I have no idea on how to open that... As for the other sprites I don't know, but I suppose they should be located in Objects. Again, the files are not read by Slade. It doesn't even tell which format they are in.Gez wrote:I don't even know where the A&A sprites are located. Ashes to Ashes was made by Corel, who made Wordperfect, so it's a plausible theory.Gez wrote:Not that game files frequently use extensions without much care if these same extensions are used by something else. Also I'm surprised anyone can run Ashes to Ashes. All my attempts have failed, both in XP and Windows 7. I'd love to have the graphics though, some of them looked very nice.

Still no guarantee. When you find a .bsa file, you can guess it's a Bethesda Softworks Archive... But it's a different format for each game they've ever made!

Re: [Project] Obscure FPS Resources
Regarding Ashes to Ashes, I can tell you straight up that the game's sounds are stored within the EXE itself and can be ripped using any 32-bit Windows resource ripper. I was going to try and rip the game myself some time earlier this year but was unable to find the graphics, so...

P.S. Good news. I at last managed to rip out all Ashes To Ashes resources. Tomorrow or after tomorrow I will upload them.

Re: [Project] Obscure FPS Resources
Hey guys, I'm back. I recently had to move houses and dont have internet yet, so I'm writing this from someone elses pc. Anyway here are the Disruptor Textures, what you will notice is that most of them are in 32x32 parts and need to be put together, I haven't found the time to do this because of having to move but i figured I'd upload them anyway. This contains textures for every level, plus static and projectile sprites. I'll try to do a full weapons rip too.
Next up, I plan to finish the "Alien Trilogy" weapons and start on getting resources out of "In Extremis".

Nice work! There is some interesting stuff in there. Most of the textures appear to be 32x32, but oh well... The sprites aren't bad.Diodeus wrote:P.S. Good news. I at last managed to rip out all Ashes To Ashes resources. Tomorrow or after tomorrow I will upload them.
This is great. I was hoping to see a monster rip too, any chances to get that? I was mostly interested in the enemies from the level set on Mars I think, that has a red sky and some weird demon-like monsters. You start with no weapons in the level but there are various corpses with machineguns around.Zer0 wrote:Hey guys, I'm back. Re: [Project] Obscure FPS Resources
I can't do a damn thing with these Turok 1 and 2 texture archives.
Again, what is a good tool for this kind of thing? I can tell from poking around that they're container archives, but in no useful format.
