let sprites be camera textures

right now if i set an existing sprite in animdefs to a camera texture, setcameratotexture() whines that it isn't a camera texture dispite the sprite showing up pink&black like an unset camera texture.

First question I have to ask is... why?

Beyond that, I don't see any reason why it would even make sense to do so. So the why is pretty important right now...

If I remember, this was stated to be impossible. It could be possible in gzdoom however... probably.

heh, you could make as example a round portal sprite, which shows where the portal goes by setting it as a cameratexture, and a camera in its destination :P

I can see some uses for this.

1) As someone said earlier - Dead Space-style hologram inventory windows.
2) Dynamic portals. Shoot a portal projectile and see the destination dynamically no matter where you shoot it!

Basically any dynamic stuff that should be rendered in sprite form...

Eventually, I will get around to this, if someone doesn't beat me to it. It's probably slightly more complex, but hopefully nothing I can't handle. There's enough good ideas in this thread to motivate me to try this myself.
