Make it so that I can save my color (sliders) into 4 slots.

Post by signofzeta »

You can actually replace 4 with any number higher than 4, but it would be cool if in the player setup menu, I control the color sliders, then have the ability to save those colors because every time I want to go back to the default green marine color, or that I spent so much time trying to get the right mix to get the heretic second player color, or get that cool color but when someone else changes it, I wouldn't have a clue what I did before which makes it really annoying.

What I'm saying is, sometimes during coop, I want to pick a certain color, but moving the sliders to get that color that I have previously made before and replicating it, especially after many months is tough.

I'm not sure I understand correctly what precisely you want here.

What I could quickly add is a numeric display of the colors so that you can write them down somewhere and next time you adjust them get the sliders to the written down numbers.

I think he wants a few save slots to save the color combinations in.

Makes sense to me, and even if it can easily be done with a notepad document and the console command that changes player color, it'd be handy.

What I'd suggest is to have another option on the player setup menu which lets you select from these options:

"Custom 1"
"Custom 2"
"Custom 3"
"Custom 4"
"Default Player 1"
"Default Player 2"
...
"Default Player N"

The selection would default to Custom 1, and the player would change his selection to one of the custom slots and then make changes to the sliders to change the settings in that slot. Then they'd get saved to the INI so you can switch between them and restore your old settings. The Default slots would lock out the sliders and instead set your player color to the game default for the player number you select. These would be different based on what game you're playing. (Green, Red, Black, Brown for Doom, etc)

yeah, something like 4 custom colors, and 4 default colors, seeing as how Doom and Heretic have only 4 default colors to begin with. Hexen, after the patch or expansion has 8, but I believe that the original hexen has only 4.

I mean, it is so hard to replilcate that cool shade of pink that isn't Salmon, nor is it too purple, nor it is too red. I mean, it's hot pink, and not just pink.

Note:

Doom
1 Green
2 Indigo, or bluish greyish black
3 brown
4 red

Heretic
1 Green
2 Brownish Orange
3 Bright Red
4 Bright Blue

Hexen Figher
1 Blue
2 Red
3 Yellow
4 Green, well same shade as the player 1 heretic guy anyway.

Hexen Cleric and Mage
1 Blue
2 Red
3 Brownish orange, but more orange than the heretic guy second player
4 Same green as heretic and hexen fighter.

Well that is what I believe the vanilla versions had, but I don't know for sure, but I just took the first 4 colors from Jdoom/jheretic/jhexen, so I believe that was what the vanilla version colors were as well. I don't know, but what I want for the default colors, or the default 4 slots is the original colors from the vanilla games. And of course 4 custom slots for my shades of hot pink, cosmic purple, deep sea turquoise, and burnt sienna.

Let's be honest. Id may have called it indigo, but there is no indigo in the palette, nor is there a blueish greyish black. It's grey.

And no Strife? No one loves Strife. :(

They did call it either grey or black in the manual, but just for the sake of how the chat system worked, they had to call it something that didn't share a first letter with any of the other colors. Remember when you pushed G to talk to only the Green player, or B to the Brown player?

Of course strife should be included.

1 is green
2 is uh um what was player 2's color again?
3 IDK
4 IDK
5-8 IDK if there is 8 players in strife.

As for strife, IDKFA. Or I don't know fucking anything.

Strife does have support for up to eight players, but gods help me if I actually remember all of their colors.

If Acolytes are an example of the colors possible in strife, then I'd guess it'd be the following:
Blue
Dark Green
Light Green
Gold
Gray
Red
Rust
Tan

Thing is, though, even if you get the color values correct, ZDoom does not reproduce the colors faithfully. Good luck trying to get that to work...

Well, ZDoom works off the IWAD's palette and has access to the same translation routines as the original games. What I'm proposing is that when one of the defaults is chosen it actually uses the original palette translation method rather than the color sliders, so a 100% accurate reproduction should be possible.

As an alternative, you could create seperate player classes using these:

They are a 100% accurate, I used the colour remap tool of XWE.

If you were to go that far, a TEXTURES lump would be a far superior route to go, rather than remapping the sprites themselves.
