Re: Running ENB series in Zdoom
People have asked for dumber things.
I was directly referring to your little ending quip (In regards to ENB series status.) with my own post at that. Although looking back at it, I most likely phrased it incorrectly.

Re: Running ENB series in Zdoom
I actually just got around to trying this ENB thingy after actually looking at the page and seeing the screenshots... is this supposed to be playable under normal gameplay circumstances, or does ENB Series exist more of as a show-off tech demo?
I only tried it with GTA: San Andreas... I just extracted it into my GTA: SA folder, ran it stock... it was so god damn slow, I couldn't play the game at all.
I'm far from crappy hardware either... Intel Q9550 2.4 @ 4.0 GHz, 4 GB RAM, 2 x ATI 4870 X2s - shouldn't this be waaaaay more than enough to handle it? :P

You need to change some of the quality things to higher numbers than zero, or try someone's preset.Nash wrote:I actually just got around to trying this ENB thingy after actually looking at the page and seeing the screenshots... is this supposed to be playable under normal gameplay circumstances, or does ENB Series exist more of as a show-off tech demo?

I ran into the same problem with the STALKER ENB series...slow as shit omg.And the same story with the newer release for Morrowind(I Know it wasn't made for morrowind in particular but thats just what the download was called)Nash wrote:I actually just got around to trying this ENB thingy after actually looking at the page and seeing the screenshots... is this supposed to be playable under normal gameplay circumstances, or does ENB Series exist more of as a show-off tech demo?

Did you use the Older version of ENB or the newer one?I know that it called for high end video cards so maybe its just more of a video card problem.(though I have no idea about ATI,I'm a Geforce man myself)

Re: Running ENB series in Zdoom
Meh, I decided not to bother... I was just curious anyway. I'd rather play GTA 4 if I want the pretty graphics.
BTW Proof, your custom title is breaking the forum layout...

Re: Running ENB series in Zdoom
There's about like, 3-4 features that actually slow down games considerably:
Occlusion (aka SSAO),
Motion Blur (most likely. You can still tone down the quality from 0 to 1 or 2, however.),
Depth of Field (Decrease or disable),
UseReflectiveBump (Gives you bump mapping for the ground. Darkens the whole damn floor in, say, GTA: Vice City though. No way.)
And that's about it. My settings if you want to use them. I like them when playing with GTA: VC. Very nice.
Also, "Meh, I decided not to bother... I was just curious anyway. I'd rather play GTA 4 if I want the pretty graphic" is a pretty dumb argument, to be honest. Might as well move on to a better game if you want better modding capabilities than, say, ZDoom with that logic. :/

This sucks. My framerate dropped down to 6-7 fps, by using HL2 ENB series.
The effects suck, too.

The GTA one, not the HL2 one.

Now if only the GL mode referenced DirectX...
I mean really, I love the softening effect that ENB gives doom.

From a programming stand point, that makes about as much sense as "I wish Linux ran in Windows" -- scratch that, less sense than that since there is a purpose to virtual machines.

Even so, it still stands unless Graf puts more fancy effects into gzdoom.
*Shudder* I can just imagine his response...

No, the point doesn't stand. Let's get a simile. Imagine a graphic library is like a car. OpenGL and Direct3D are of comparable size and speed, being in the same range and all. They are definitely not tow trucks. Let say they are the Beetle and the 2CV. What you want is to drive a Beetle inside a 2CV to use both cars at the same time.

Not really, I just want to trick the engine into referencing the DX libraries like software mode.Gez wrote:No, the point doesn't stand. Let's get a simile. Imagine a graphic library is like a car.
