Any suggestions on where the game should be set? I'd prefer it be in the States, preferrably some kind of suburb or a small city (something that can be realistically done within the Doom map engine limits). I can split up the maps in the hub if a particular area gets too big.

I will not copy the real-life counterpart 100% - it will be an adaptation (like how Liberty City in GTA IV is a fictional version of New York City).

Personally, I like it when things are not set in the US simply because so many things are. I'd prefer anywhere else. How about Kuala Lumpur? ;) I've nothing against the US, it's just that there is a whole other world out there too and I like to see a bit of that as well. :)

I was considering that too... it's just that the majority of people here do not speak English, and making NPCs speak flawless English in my game would seem a little weird...

(on the plus side, I get to mape the roads to a left-hand driving system, eat that, Americans! :P)

Set it in Mexico City. There's the "translation convention" to justify the perfect English. I mean, look at Return to Castle Wolfenstein...it's assumed that everybody speaks German, and that the main character understands it, but the audience being primarily English-speaking would need it translated for them.

1. Set it in Kuala Lumpur
2. Make all characters American
3. Make them speak Italian

How about London? Killing Floor pulled that off quite well - just do any city and add big red buses :D

I quite like the idea of it being in the UK actually - I remember seeing some threads on some forums on the internet questioning how come zombie apocalypses all happen in the States only.

Because the zombie movie genre started as a caricature of the hyper-consumerist society, and America Fuck Yeah! is the birthplace and epitome of that?

That said the 28 days/weeks/months/years/whatever later series takes place in Britain.

More model progress... mainly because the fat zombies weren't fat enough!
Spoiler:
Base meshes are done, next phase is animation phase... this'll take about 1 day. Then the day after, work on actual zombies (fully animated zombies with hair and clothing) will begin. Since it'll be the weekend soon, my modeler will be taking a break, so I can expect to see a completed zombie variation on Monday or Tuesday (he says it should only take him about 4-5 hours of work per variation, since the base mesh and skeletona animations are all done)

Oh and BTW: Name still isn't finalized yet. I simply slapped a logo onto the last few set of pics because I thought it looked cool. I am looking back at the suggestions and I am seeing some other names that I like too. When I have confirmed a new name, this thread will be locked, and the project will be relaunched in a new thread because there is nothing left from 2008 in the game now... it's a totally new project.

(well except for the blood particles, I reused those, but I imagine those will go soon too)

EDIT: Poll, picked out the 10 best names, will keep elminating until I find a winner. :)

None of those names sound "cool", bro.

However, the title of "Dead Trail" makes me think of a cross between a zombie game and the Oregon trail.

I voted for GZDead. Dead Trail is good, too, though.

Does it necessarily need to have the word "Dead" in it?

  • Dead Reaping: Um, "Dead Harvest" would sound quite a lot better.
  • Dead End: Sounds alright.
  • Dead Condition: A most fatal condition to be in. (Sounds too funny.)
  • Drop Dead: "You first, you damn mod."
  • Dead Trail: This would work if it were specifically travel-oriented.
  • Never Dead: "So I'm invincible in this game?"
  • GZDead: inb4grafquitjokes
  • Dead Shell: For your Dead Shotgun.
  • Dead Earth: Another gem, actually.
  • Dead Reach: Has a oddly cool ring to it.
Some true-life terms that might work:
  • Dead Centre: Seems to imply a focus point of the invasion which the player tres to breach/escape. (Plus Bri'ish spellin'! :P )
  • Deadfall: Would work especially well if set in the autumn.
  • Deadlight: This one almost begs for a gimmick involving light sources.
  • Deadlock: Another escape-oriented name.
  • Dead Weight: lol fat zombiez
