Most memorable wad experience.
Most memorable wad experience.
The best experience I had, was when I was new to zdoom, and trying out Mock 2.
I have never laughed so hard when playing doom2, it was pure bliss!!! :'D

Titan.wad. It was one of the first Zdoom wads I tried out.
And a few minutes later:Myself wrote:Holy crap, a security camera!
But right before that, I thought:Myself wrote:Holy crap, a mirror!

I know I talk about Runaway Train in every topic like this but it really blew my mind into thousands of little pieces. Completely amazing for someone who had used Doom95 for years and years.

I'd have to say the city levels in Neodoom come to mind first. Mostly because that was one of my first played wads, but I still find them pretty fun to this day.

Foreverhood did it for me. I'd include a few others like Ghoul's Forest and Wolfen when I found weapons in it, but Foreverhood was an experience. I can't quite put my finger on why it made such an impression on me.
Eh, god, not to put a dampener on Last Resort either, but you know?

A Warm Place, one of the first ZDoom Wads I ever played. I was amazed by the amount of new effects that ZDoom could do, when I played it I thought 'Doom can do all of this? Seriously? Really?'
Re: Most memorable wad experience.
Gonna have to say playing Foreverhood. Many wads try to capture a twisted fantasy like enviroment but Foreverhood hit the nail on the head. The decapitated Nuus hopping around made it that much more twisted.

If I had run into Foreverhood earlier on, that definitely would have been one of the most influential wads for me.
I'm gonna' say TCOTD:A
I know, it's not exactly old, but I have never been so immersed in a wad. Maybe I was tired. Maybe the planets were aligned. But that wad hit me square between the eyes. The environment was pulled off so well. I literally had crazy dreams about it. It was friggin' awesome.
Besides, I'm a sucker for Non-Doom-like gameplay.

Re: Most memorable wad experience.
in zdoom, playing massmouth for the first time
Re: Most memorable wad experience.
The Doom 2 IWAD. As in I can basically recall all the details of everything, so I guess that counts as being very memorable. The years of co-op and DM on it also add to the memories.
As for people's custom wads... I'm not sure exactly how much "most memorable" would differ from "favorite" or "best", so I'm going to have to play an Action Doom card just to be safe.

Massmouth 2. End of story.
I still remember the feeling at the end of MAP08... Trooper dies, sudden shock. As the pod crash-lands on Map09, somehow the atmosphere (music, story 'cliffhanger', setting) seemed so otherworldly and just plain amazing. Stupid me and not being able to describe it in words...
Second place goes to Deus Vult II's cathedral fight. HOLY FARG, that's a hella lot of bad guys and a killer giant organ, yaknow. ;P
