inspired by zirrion's ssg-bearing possessed, I've done a supermetroid/choso esque style baron:
oh and: feel free to use for stuff...

Hey, those are pretty cool. It's always have to have new decorative objects to play with. Having little setpieces to tell a story as you pass through the map.
I like the chainsaw embedding. Reminds me of Goldenaxe.
Although I don't think I'm using the Baron sprite in the way it was intended. Critique welcome:

Nice to see the barons are now finally able to hit like us normal human being. Also i really dig the chainsaw on the corpse!
And here's the recent sprite i worked on. I always wondered, what if the Robot Boss from Spear of Destiny: Mission Pack looked a lot more cooler and had the penultimate feel to it? Here's the answer.

From someone who hates the mission packs for their awful level design and uninspiring and questionable artwork, this is a huge improvement. Good work. Though the death anim is still just as odd.

Medkit edits inspired by their appearance in Doom Eternal, Just what I personally feel they should do for future re-releases of the Classic Games to avoid the red cross issue.

Much better-looking than those silly "pill" insignias from the BFG edition.

Could've been worked if they used heart or rod of asclepius symbol, imo. I think i still can see the remain of the cross shape, but it's a good change.

What is the issue with red Cross?Clownman wrote:Medkit edits inspired by their appearance in Doom Eternal, Just what I personally feel they should do for future re-releases of the Classic Games to avoid the red cross issue.

Their symbol is copyright protected, so it can't be used in games and such.Lagi wrote:What is the issue with red Cross?
That is great!osjclatchford wrote:inspired by zirrion's ssg-bearing possessed, I've done a supermetroid/choso esque style baron:
Would work great for a side-scroller, but normally it would look weird without rotations.

Not copyright. It's specially protected by the Geneva conventions.Jarewill wrote:Their symbol is copyright protected, so it can't be used in games and such.Lagi wrote:What is the issue with red Cross?

Re: [SPRITES] Spriting Carnival!!
Yet it was wildly used for over a decade in video games to the point of it becoming something of a cliché. No idea where this seemingly random and sudden protest came from and I don't understand the need to change it in video games from a by-gone era where this practise was acceptable and a standard practise.

Re: [SPRITES] Spriting Carnival!!
Video games made a lot less money in the 90s; the more visibly mainstream and profitable something becomes, the more legal stipulations like this come into play.
The change initially bothered me a lot, but I think silhouetting the cross in a red border is a decent enough compromise.

Putting a heart on them looks better, heart is still readable as health but doesn't have the same "2 seconds in Photoshop is good enough" feel that the red around white cross (or the weird pills from BFG edition) does imo.

Re: [SPRITES] Spriting Carnival!!
I think the green cross was probably the best compromise; retains the majority of the original sprite, but different enough to avoid a direct comparison. The pill was probably the worst idea...
