This is what it looks like (JPEG, 1920x1080, 150KB~300KB per file):

And the Doom 2 bestiary doesn't look any worse, either. While not ultimately perfect, it's still a pretty amazing technology nevertheless. It is highly impressive how far AI has come.
I'd been messing around with neural networks and trying to upscale wolf3d sprites, by actually taking pre-made hi-res sprites, scaling them down, then training the neural net on that to do the reverse. Unfortunately I haven't had much success. One reason is it takes forever on my gpu to train 300 or so sprites, and furthermore, there's some graphical artifacts that appear that I've been trying to clean up. While the results have improved since I started, I still don't have anything comparable to this at the moment. I contend that training a model on old sprites is really the way to go to get the ultimate results. I think for doom, it would be good to take say, Blood sprites and scale them down, and train on that. Since blood sprites are roughly 2x the size of doom's sprites and they were made using photos of clay models, much like doom's sprites.

Anyway, I was using pix2pix to do this, but it seems I'd be better off at getting a hold of the framework used for this model and training on that.

I've just figured out how to batch-resize stuff using the xBRZ rescaler (the Scaler Test tool by zenju).

I think this might improve things a bit. I'll have to see, but it's a good thing.

I know this isn't event remotely doom-related but it'll all make sense soon enough once more progress is done.

Railgun type thing? Feel free to use it. I don't really like how this one turned out.

This would be a lot more impressive if you had not simply gone through my oldskool mod and extracted the pistol.
Yeah I know it's a new muzzle flash but credit where credits due eh? :|
