Yeah. Once cleaned, it looks really cartoonish and MS-Painted. The grime give it a texture.

Well at the time I didn't really know what to do, I might go back to it and give it a slight brushed metal look- we'll see...

Eh, I did a clean-up job before, and while I may agree, sometimes having a "flat" look to it like that (paired with other textures) gives the level a different feel.

I've been building a lot of my levels like this, and to be quite honest, I like the look.

You applied a couple filters to an original texture with PhotoShop. ...To make it look a little more realistic and pretty. Does it tile well, though?

That looks nice, that texture always reminded me of toffee or fudge, now it's chocolate wafers, mmm :D

(A couple textures still need replacing, namely the door)
But just to prove a point. :) It isn't supposed to be that dark and insidious Doom, you know.
ED: I'm using the IDBEHOLDL cheat here. In game that TEKGREN texture replacement actually gives a bit of a shimmer in mid-high light levels, which I thought was surprisingly cool. :)
