Start of a redo of the VSK7 Nightshade - basically, trying to get this:

To look more like this (image is huge):
Spoiler:
The handguard and gas tube are finished. I might leave the Kalashnikov fire selector and gas block/sight mount the way it is, but it's still noticeably disparate from concept sketches and such.

I might try and find a Goldeneye 007 phantom model to make a sprite of.
In 3DSmax though, how do I make the light coming from above?

No, that looks really good! keep going! :)

What bothers me a little about the current sprite in The Trooper is that it looks too much like the Sakova.

In the original sketches, the Nightshade had more of a "modern AR" look - straight receiver, M16-like magazine well, and so on, but given that it's otherwise inspired by the Saiga-12, I felt I could get away with the AK-ish HUD sprite early on.

Getting closer, but not quite there yet.

One minor thing i'd change is the inconsistency of the wood grain, i mean, the idle frame has no wood grain while all the other frames have it, other than that it's really rad :)

I wonder how many times the idea of Nazi Germany invading the States after an important divergence in history occurs has been explored, i only know of the dreaded Turning Point.

I would much rather see the alt future where japan is able to hold their own with the us, the decide on a truce with the us, keep all the isloands/china that they still had, and the cold war plays our very differently since the world hasn't seen the use of nukes yet.

Should I try making another gun sprite? I'll try and make a COD sprite with Doomguy's hand maybe.
