The WIP Thread

If it's not ZDoom, it goes here.

I'd offer the full extent of my support if someone was interested in doing this. Much of the code for my on-hiatus adventure game framework could be of use, like doors that open when you click on them and a custom conversation system.

Edit: and if anyone wanting to make shooting gallery game with the cursor code would of course be just as welcome to do so

That's the funny thing about the game cited- both systems are needed to replicate the gameplay!

Oh wait, you wanted the gameplay to be *exactly* like the flash game. I guess that would be more Doom: A Telltale Adventure Game Series.

Hmm. I know people have made Visual Novel style dialog boxes in ZDoom, but has anyone managed to do the Telltale timed-response dialogue system (which they completely ripped off of Alpha Protocol, btw).

You can't randomly delete the user's savegames in ACS, though.

Trust me, I went through this song and dance during The Reelism Times. Savegames are sacred, holy, blameless creatures. Like cows in India, or trams in Melbourne.

I personally don't see the appeal of a locked camera when free roaming is more fun and immersive (not to mention easier to do in zdoom), but that's just me.
A telltale type dialogue system wouldn't be hard, but personally I much prefer being able to take my time with dialogue choices - which is why my system works like in the Baldurs Gate and Fallout series.

I now vaguely wish we had people in this community obsessed with finding security exploits. imagine an acs script that uses a vulnerability in the ACS VM to do something like that

Imagine if terrywad authors exploited that... It'd be hell.

And the devs would plug that stuff in like 5 seconds as soon as it is found... XD

Truth be told, the ZDoom code base never really has been "security tested" - it hasn't really needed it per se because it's not an attractive enough platform to attract the kind of black hats who specialize in that kind of stuff.

But honestly, I would not be surprised if both ZScript and ACS had some pretty hairy vulnerabilities... but the same might possibly be true of other ports, too, that are sufficiently advanced - like Legacy, Edge, Eternity, or even bare Hexen, itself.

I could imagine the database feature in zandronum having the capability to cause trouble.

I know somebody once made a wad "compression bomb" - A tiny wad file that loads into GB of memory. I don't recall whether anything was done about that.

That can already be done with ZIP archivers, too, though. 4 GB's of \0's compresses pretty well...

Now mod for doom can literally become weaponized, huh? That sounds it might become worse than fattening our computer.
