Definitely go for the mouseover here. Changing from one click to two clicks to get somewhere is going to make the site less user-friendly, regardless of any visual/layout improvements.

When I can at least draw a player sprite, which probably won't happen for a while because I really fail badly at drawing 3D multi-angled complex objects like foxes and detailed artifacts, and being a fully hand-drawn project, it's of course all going to hinge on how well and quickly I can draw out sprites and textures for all of the stuff I have planned.

I'd basically have to finish her sprite set at least:
