Well enough about that, let's get GHOULY:

Image

Like the last time, the darkness of the forest differs on the difficulty setting. Hard to tell in the GL renderer for some reason but if you compare you can tell.

Typically those engines designed for huge areas (the Serious Sam engine in particular) are setup to LOD (Level of Detail) everything in view. In addition to enemies and objects taking on lower-poly appearances at range, the terrain will typically deform based on distance as well. This allows for incredibly detailed terrain close up, as well as a very far view being allowed, without taxing the GPU at all.

Oblivion does that too. It's really noticable on a low graphic setting too (my brother's pc sucks you see)

God I hate DB. Why can't it copy the mid texture of a selection? Whenever I paste it, it removes the mid texture of any two sided line. It's really annoying cause having to go back and edit every damn tree I just pasted is a fucking chore.

Is there some sort of option i'm missing here?

Edit: Screw it, slade is doing a better job now.

[Sorry for ranty-ness]

Whoo-whee! Holy shit, I just tried GF2 last night 'bout midnight, and goddamn... I never thought it was really possible to get freaked the fuck out by a friggin' doom mod! But damn, it sure does work! I especially loved how that little line in the text document, "listen for the screams", kinda resonates when you first get killed by that fucker. It's like, "Huh, this isn't that bad... Map's kinda undetailed... Pretty wide open, a bit dark, not too creepy... Well, I -HOLY FUCK WHAT WAS THAT?!?"

Seriously though, it's great, and it does it's job perfectly- it freaks folks the fuck out! I just got a friend of mine today- I loaded it up for him, and watched him roam around. He started with "Ah, this isn't really scarry at all. It's actually pretty bor-", and then he jumped 10 feet in the air when that fuckin ghoul thingamajig instagibbed him with that scream of his! Of course, we both found that co-op is actually quite fun in this map too; the hunt aspect makes it real interesting, and it's terrifying when your friend is suddenly ambushed about 20 feet away, and he gets killed, and you realize you're next...

In short, Ghoul's Forest 2 was fuckin awesome, and I anxiously await the release of Ghoul's Forest 3! Looks great from the screenshot! (Though I'd consider using a nighttime sky; might make it seem a bit spookier methinks...)

No idea. They were taken from that ninja duel wad so i'm just gonna ask that guy whoever made it where he got it from :P

Glad you like it! I got rid of the sky because it gives that "cramped" feeling. Although there is a pitch black sky around the outside of the area, where it is all swampy and hard to move through. It looks like an island or something though so I might have to change this sooner or later.

The bow is certainly from witchaven.

I'm such a coward, i'm too scared to play ghoul's forest 2 without the light cheat! Strange thing that i'm never having any nightmares after i see something scary or horroristic.

The best way to deal with the scarriness thing: Play with a friend. That way, you can reassure yourself you're not the only one scarred as hell. :P

Anyway, another suggestion I have is to use the grass textures from Phocas Island 2. Might make the forest area look just a tid bit better, and it wouldn't take too long to make (Hell, I'd do it for you if you'd like :D )

Ugh i'm getting another error now saying this map has an incomplete BSP tree. Even though I just built the nodes in SLADE. Now what's up? (it crashes with a log also)

Damnit I wanna get this thing over and done with

Uhh. Worst things happen at worst time. :?
I dont know how stable SLADE is, because it doesn't want to work on my computer, it acts strange.

Try to build the nodes every time outside of editors.
