180 HP sounds like quite a bit for a "basic" troop monster, especially one with increased mobility... but then I am using the Doom imp as my standard, and also assuming that flying = can't afford more weight + more fiddly bits = less protection + less durability.

As for the eye thing... can't you use A_SpawnItemEx or A_CustomMissile with aim mode 2?

Not, that's not what i meant. Since there is only 1 direction for the death frames, shooting an eyeball out while strafing will look wierd. With the death-frames always facing you, the eyeball would look like it's shooting out the sides or back when you move around.

A_Facetarget FTW? :P i'm sure if you have enough of them you can work that around.

i dont see how A_Facetarget is going to help. O_o The death frames only have 1 direction, thus faces the player by default. Plus, in multiplayer, a flying eyeball wouldnt work cuz the players will see different things (i.e. 1 seeing the eyeall flying out the ass while the player that killed it will see what was intended).

Make the eye a seeker missile projectile then. Always a bit of fun to be owned by ones opponents gibs. Doesn't evne have to have damage if you don't want.

...or you could make the eye the ammo pickup.

Well, how do gibbed ettins deal with this problem? How does the fighter's head pop off when gibbed? Or you could just keep the eye popping out as part of the death animation like the original cacodemon and make it a lot easier (even if it's less convincing).

The difference with the watcher's eye as opposed to the ettin's head is that it would look really bad were the eye to fly out behind it.

I personally think it's more convincing if the eye is part of the same sprite, really - otherwise you'd instinctively expect other pieces to be separate as well, leading to Nashgore-like numbers of actors spawning from one dead monster. ^^;

Hey is that a bad thing? ;(

Anyway I've toned it down a lot. It's low-end-PC friendlier now but still looks as good (actually better because I've spent a lot of time getting it to behave like Blood's blood effects).

Yes, it is, actually, because if I remember correctly, the watcher is spawned repeatedly from some other enemy.

Jeese, these sprites are DEFINITELY as good, if not better, than the original Doom Sprites. Awesome work.

Here's some sketches that i will base some monsters on.

Hades Spire Caco-like monsters; Theyare scaled to about the relative size of one another. The Overlord (Top) might get arms; i've alrady finished the Watcher (Bottom right); and finally the Hades Elemental (bottom left).

The DE version of the Doom3 Vulgar that I will use for the Acheron stage:

Finally, the Stygian hornet and Queen, also for the Acheron Stage. Image

@Anakin S.: The difference between the Watcher and the other monster is that those are humanoid. Also, their head is on top of their body instead of in the middle (as with the eye). I see no reason to change the sprite as it is now.

Holy Hell on a Stick... if I were to say "amazing", I'd probably get the Understatement of the Year award. o_O

Those Hornets looks positively freakish, by the way. How the devil did you come up with those designs, anyway? Hehe... :P

...now that's a scary bite attack to contemplate. D:

@Nash: Hey, some of us are lousy enough that a sudden dip below 24 FPS would make things slightly difficult! :P
