How I easily create reflective metal walls, wad inside

Post by jobro »

Start by create your sector Now add 1 sector inside of it. Raise the outter sectors floor +40 and the ceiling -32. Set the textures you want to use. Now draw up lines in the outter sector so it get's a sector outside of it. Set the solid walls effect to 182 (mirror) and set the inner walls middle texture to shawn2 and set the translucent effect (208) for all with a value between 64 and 128. The higher value the less reflective the walls will be. That's it. Can't be more simple. If you didn't understand then take a look at the submitted wad file.

It looks just like mirror, not a reflective metal.

I'm guessing the screenshot doesn't do it justice. I'll have to look at the wad later.

Yes that's something I tried a while back. It has very limited use because, well, they are zdoom mirrors, thus there needs to be enough empty space behind them etc etc.

Also because of the mirror recursions that demo map slows (g)zdoom considerably :P

What would be cool is if zdoom could support this linedef as one, e.g. translucent with mirror effect.

I think something like that trick (no 'equal-room behind') was already made once for shattering glass.
