Google PakScape. Its a great program made specifically for handling Quake PAK files and PK3 files.

PK3 files are just zips. Even Windows can handle them, though you'd need to rename said PK3 first.

Worst thing imaginable for handling PK3s. Any Zip tool is better.

Don't you just love new file formats that are, in fact, identical to old formats, just with a different extension

The most useless thing Windows has to offer. One has to be out of one's mind to leave that nonsense on.

What exactly is wrong with it? I mostly use it to extract stuff from PAKs and it works just fine for that. I actually don't use it that often for PK3 files.

For PAKs it's the only thing I know. But for PK3s any real Zip manager is certainly better.
