The last time I checked, DIY did wonders. So did giving your maps decent names.

A piece of advice:

Stop. Right now.

Make small maps - one, two, or three map wads. Get experience with detailing, item and monster placement first, before you try to recruit for a megawad.

Megawads take a huge amount of effort! Many newbs don't realize this and begin, happy-go-lucky, then eventually realize the scope of their task and leave the project unfinished. Sometimes this crushes any desire to continue mapping.

Once you're experience enough and can make a decent-sized map without much trouble, you might want to recruit a team. Make sure to give a description of the MW and make sure you keep a fast pace.

Of course, there's a lot of filler between those general steps. But don't be so ambitious. Ambition killed Caesar, remember. ;)

Is it just me, or does anybody else think that "Armagedoom" is an incredibly awkward name for a wad file?

I agree with every word Wills said. It might sound like negative advice, but really, man, what he's saying makes a lot of sense.

I've been a closet mapper for over a year and am only just now beginning a project that I plan on releasing. And belive me, that year was definately worth it. I learned an awful lot of things about the physical part of mapping, and things that make a map good and fun to play.

It's good that you're ambitious, but you need to take it in smaller steps. Much smaller steps. There's a lot more that goes into making a good project than one might think, and as Wills said, you might just realise that and become overwhelmed and maybe even not want to try mapping anymore.

Also, whether it's a megawad or a single-map wad, posting map names alone without any description of your desired direction whatsoever is no way to get anyone to help you out. As Alien mentioned, what do you want these maps to look like? Do you have a concept for them in mind? Do you have any ideas of a storyline? Do you have anything done yet besides map names, or is this all just up in the air?

Again, this may all seem negative, but really I'm only trying to help. Going back to the drawing board never hurts.

How are these ideas, pray tell? Description of a map = map idea. Name of a map = map name.

As far as the 8-character limit goes, I'd have to say, come on. 8.3 is redicuous, and, as far as I'm conserned, should be treated as OBSOLETE.

To everyone who's trying to offer Mattus advice regarding his project:
Wills wrote:A piece of advice:

He's never listened to anyone in the past, and he's demonstrated in this thread that he clearly has no intention of doing so any time soon.

So I suggest you try and focus your time on something more constructive, such as repeatedly smashing your head against a brick wall.

Yeah, word of advice to everybody in this thread. Short of threats of banning, I've never seen Mattus acknowledge another post in a thread that isn't some sort of resource to rip. Do not waste your time responding to him, we tried all this before when he was 'helping out' the ZDCMP2.

Before I clicked this thread I knew, I could just bet 10 bucks and I'd win more that this thread got all the rubbish that it got.

Sir_Alien's words, in this case (about the brick wall) are noble.

Still, attempting a lending helpful hand (though in this case it's as useless as it can get) I'll at least have some satisfaction I didn't let the blind totally go near the cliff's edge.

Lord Mattus, before you ask for help on your project, you must remember people have their own businesses, lives, projects. You can't expect an excessive ammount of quality people to just join your project. Make something to ATTRACT people to your project, to stand it out. That said, you have a reputation here of someone below the quality's lowest, which doesn't help either.

So what can you do, and should? Make something first in this project, then ask for help. And I mean mapping, not writing names for maps, stories, and crap like that. Because mental content, without work, everyone can scratch out from their hair-lace's forest. Provide screenshots, descriptions. Learn how to organise work.

Sorry to say this, but your project has 1:1 000 of being realised. This can be changed (as everything) though.
