fragged imp hanging over edge

Post by Kappes Buur »

.
I know that this has been around since the original DOOM, but it is now that I am taking more notice of the fact, that fragged monsters/opponents like to "hang" around over edges, as can be seen in this screenshot. And, no less, by their elbow or ankle.

Could it be added to the ZDoom code, to give fragged monsters/opponents some gravity as to allow them to slide or fall to the bottom of the adjacent 'sector'?

i've noticed this too lately. i assumed this had something to do with that bug where items can end up floating in mid-air.

MBF tried to fix it but as a result some strange effects happened that were worse than this. If I remember correctly ZDoom had this 'fix' but Randy removed it because it didn't work properly.

The monster's bounding box still touches the floor, that is what I would say.

That's exactly the reason why it hangs there.

Was the fix basically to have things on the line between 2 sectors of different heights slide until they were no longer in such a position?

And was the negative problem that dead monsters would slide forever in some circumstances - eg the chaingunners in the final room of map22 of doom2?

Exactly. Which was quite annoying if it happened. It also could occasionally cause some objects to drop off ledges which shouldn't.

i think that if an objects bounding box is more than 50% in another sector of a different height that is > 32units below it should slide till it drops

i also think that killing something should maxe it fly backwards

  • Well, in my case, most of them do fly backwards off the stairs when blasted,
or slide down the stairs just so far. But, when their momentum runs out, they just hang there.
