DooM Patches

Post by JangoFett »

Where can I find a website that has some, tons, of Patches for DooM?

Depends on what you mean by 'patches.' Are you looking for official patches (probably not necessary if you're using Zdoom) or mods/skins/etc. Either way, just go here:

http://www.doomworld.com/idgames

You'll have to deal with unrelenting legions of ads and popups, though. Unless somebody knows a better site...

EDIT: You might also try http://www.gamers.org/pub/idgames . Pop-up free.

Go to http://www.google.com and download the Internet Explorer GoogleBar. One of its many features is an intelligent pop-up blocker. To wit:

a) Pop-ups triggered as the page is loading (i.e. most ad popups) will be blocked with a warning sound and message in the status bar.
b) Pop-ups triggered by clicking on a link will be allowed to open.
c) Holding CTRL overrides the blocker and allows any popups triggered to open normally.
d) Clicking once on the blocker icon clears that entire website for popups unconditionally. Clicking it again puts it back to normal.

Now if only someone could develop a Java ad blocker . . .

Or just get a better web broswer that has built-in popup blocking capabilities. http://www.mozilla.org/

If you mean DeHackEd patches - look in the IDGames archives.

Unfortunately, the word "patch" can mean some very specific things. Relating to Doom, it could be a graphic used to make up a wall texture, a dehacked patch to alter how the exe behaves and more generally a way of upgrading a program to a newer version without having to get a full copy of the newer version (and there are more I know).

However, JangoFett is, I believe, reasonably new to Dooming and Doom editing and is probably using the term "patch" as a generic name to refer to things that modify the game (mainly add on levels I suspect) rather than some Doom specific meaning for the term.

If that is the case, the links Liam gave probably fit the bill.

If not, just ignore me. :)

No, he means Dehacked Patches.

Yeah, I suspect he means dehacked patches. Independence Doom is a dehacked patch and decaldef inside a PWAD. So it's functionality is primarily that of a dehacked patch, although it does come in a PWAD. Confusion continues. :)

I expect RL to pop into this thread at any minute and preach about teh 3vi1s of using blanket terms and the confusion it causes.

Hmm... That strikes me as being something you would probably do.

Oops, I shouldn't have said that because now Hotwax is going to freak out from me "comparing" him to RL, even though I didn't. Oh boy, here it comes.
