Doomed Village

Post by Aeddes »

Sequence of "Death House".

Dark, cramped and confuse as always.
Modified vanilla monsters and weapons. Some new sounds.
Flashlight included. Use it or suffer.

Maybe too hard for some players. Maybe not...

Doom 2.
UDMF.
NEED jump, crouch and freelook.
Only UV for now.

WOW, that was quite a challenge!
Excellent map..

I have to give this map, as is, a 5 out of 10
simply because it is too dark.
Spoiler:
Only after I increased the brightness by ca 28 and
changed the lightmode to 0, to be able to see the
clues, could I adjust my score to 10 out of 10.
Spoiler:
What a great architectural map, with a progression for a fan of puzzles

Thanks man!
I understand your POV, but darkness is intentional. There's a flashlight included exactly to compensate this. The idea is keep flashlight always on.
The second picture simple breaks the atmosphere IMO.

Edit. As for architecture, it was barely inspired by an old end scene of a PSX game.

Awesome map.

Very tough, with a great atmosphere.

I love slowly creeping through the village basements and dungeons.

Not been able to beat it just yet, but this is already a classic for me.

Great work!

Wow, it was pretty good! And it was pretty scary! xD
I put the WAD in my DOOM Mods folder.

I'm absolutely loving this map. Currently creeping my way through it with LitDoom, but now I'm stuck. I went through all the underground tunnels, triggered the trap that unleashes the Sytr, Dark Imp, and Pinky, and flipped the switch, but now there's nothing left to do, it seems. I got to the tunnel in the sewer with the body nailed to the wall in a little makeshift shrine, but now I can't figure out where to go next. Was there a Skull down there I missed?

This is one the best maps ever made, definitely in the top 20.
But, as I mentioned earlier, it is too dark. That is why, for my playing the map, I deleted lightmode in MAPINFO.

It can feel that way. There are so many facets to the game that it took me ages to find the exit.

From your description go to the ladder and press space bar.

That should get you going for a while longer :D

If you are at the place on Kappes Buur image, use the ladder and take the yellow key.

To add to my post above:
The run from start to exit can be completed without touching all clues or secrets, notably the well and the neighbouring area with the 5 hell knights.

which is a shame, because these areas were quit fun to explore.

Just 2 minor complaints:
1. The duration of this door

to open/close is too short.

2. the text messages are too small to read.

Appreciate for take your time for this map. (Seems that some people run from non "vanilla" maps...)

I'll check the door close time.
On the messages size, iirc it can be adjusted somewhere in UZDoom options.
