Contrary to popular belief, we are not all-knowing-all-seeing magical beings!

If you want help you're going to have to provide lots of info. Like what is your hardware, what is your operating system, what version of GZDoom/LZDoom/whatever you're using, what mods you're loading, how you're loading it, what you've already tried for fixing the problem, and anything else that is even remotely relevant to the problem.

We can't magically figure out what it is if you're going to be vague, and if we feel like you're just wasting our time with guessing games we will act like that's what you're really doing and won't help you.

Help with Renderers lagging

Post by eotech-2 »

I had this problem that started yesterday, whenever I use Gzdoom on a renderer that isnt OpenGl specifically it will lag a lot in every frame. Except for the pause menu and such. The problem wasn't there prior and before it started I could use Vulkan, OpenGLES without issues and with much better performance. This happens on any version above 4.10 also, and now even with opengl load times take long, from the results screen to loading any save and from map start.

Does your system have a dedicated graphics or is your CPU handling everything? That 3520M is 12 years old at this point and its iGPU is... let me say it like this: It's only really meant for browsing. It's under powered - severely so when it was launched and GZDoom is now using more advanced features which we will take for granted with new GPUs. If OpenGLES is working for you, I'd recommend using that.

Alternatively. Windows might've installed its own drivers - which has been known to do. Reference this website and grab your latest drivers, see if that fixes anything. It might even give you the option to download an older driver if the newest doesn't work.

A Intel HD4000 is really just the bare minimum. Im on a Intel HD4600 myself and ill just make sure i either use OpenGLES or set everything down real low as to not impact the perf too much.

FWIW, Hands Of Necromancy runs fine.

Most likely, unfortunately. Try updating the drivers, if you haven't already. :)

About the dedicated graphics thing, I don't have it, mines integrated it seems, does that have an effect?

Yes. A Intel HD4000 should better just run the GLES renderer at best. This is coming from someone who has a HD4600, which isn't that much better.

Either that or use Helion but you loose out on GZDoom exclusives.
