Spring Cleaning 2023: Moderation

We sure do have a lot of rules and guidelines threads - find them all here, and please make sure you've read them! Also, community-wide announcements (that aren't major ZDoom News) go here as well.

Following your point of view, if one goes on 4chan or a slightly racist Discord server their brain will literally explode from all these "harmful messages".

You are right that the internet is a cesspool, but this is not about people posting dumb stuff but about directly targeted attacks at specific people.
If you ask me, any website not dealing swiftly and decisively with such things is acting irresponsibly and it's better to steer clear of them entirely.
Just because there's too many places where these things are happening is not good enough justification to mimic that attitude.

cyber_cool wrote: Sun Jun 11, 2023 3:32 pm Please consider this. It's not a private club. It's not a family. It's not a bunch of friends. It's not any kind of "friendly" environment. We give a shit about each other only because of Doom, Doom mods, Doom engines, and other Doom-related things.
A forum like this one is SUPPOSED to be closer to a bunch of friends and a friendly environment. Ensuring that is supposed to be the task of the moderators. And the old guard failed rather decisively on that front - the Hall of Unpleasantness being a major contributor to this - and I think we now see the fallout: Overall activity has seriously diminished since that recent controversy.

Can you stop acting like a [censored r word slur]?
Can you stop calling me things I am not? You are in no position to diagnose me with mental retardation, or anything for the matter.

This is not 4chan, everyone expects to be treated like a god fucking damn human around here.

cyber_cool: Warning issued. This forum is supposed to be a civil community, and if your standard for internet discourse is to appeal to how things work on 4chan and "slightly racist discord server" then you're gonna have a bad time here.

Everyone else: If this tangent continues in a negative/flamewar fashion the above posts will be removed. Please be respectful.

Talking with Randi and some other moderators, I decided to hide the Hall from public view.
I know this is nearly 3 months late, but I'm kind of sad about that, because I often went in to go reread the misadventures of that one weirdo who keeps popping up with a randomizer WAD consisting entirely of stolen assets.

Brendy's Doom Ultimate Mod[sic]? Anyways, it seems that this thread has basically served its purpose.
