[Keen Replacement] Be Kind to Keen

Post by Arcterezion »

Like Commander Keen? Don't like having to kill him in Doom II?

Be Kind to Keen is the mod for you!

What this mod does is change little Billy Blaze from being absolutely destroyed to being freed, sitting down, and reading his favourite book.

So, no more pumping him full of lead until he bursts like a tomato!

Known "issue" - Keen may bleed when using gore mods. (Or, at least some of them.)
Unfortunately, I don't know how to fix this as I'm not exactly a coder.

[Download Here]

The .Zip contains two folders, which each contain another two folders for whether or not you want to have CBlood included, and if you want Keen 1-3 sounds, or Keen 4-6 sounds.

I hope you enjoy this little mod!

Credits:

id Software - All of the original graphics

Nash - CBlood (mapinfo.lmp and zscript.zc)

SiFi270 - The idea

Arcterezion - Sprite edits

I didn't think about to do a less violent way to "free" Commander Keen.
This is a very good way to do the 2nd secret level of Doom 2.
I will see how gameplay mods react to the different Keen graphics mod. :)

This is an example on how to make Keen not bleed, that is universal (does not use actor replacement)

Just found out about this after seeing a clip on Discord and immediately fell in love with it. Keen just sitting there and pulling out a book is just... SO CUTE!!!

Mind telling me how you got those SFX? I'm working on converting this to vanilla for personal use, and it was surprisingly easy to convert the graphics, but Slade won't let me convert MP3 into Doom sound format and reconverting it to wave then DSF and while that worked it ended up quieter than I'd like
I tried some uploads from sound-resources and converted the sounds myself via KeenWave, but the wave files of the adlib sounds from both of them just sounded like corrupted pc speaker sounds and are unusable
