Anything that adds more sprites won't work (even if it's the same kind), which is what these smoothing projects usually do. Therefore you will have some, potentially a lot of parts in there which won't have the needed adjustments. It will look bad since missing brightmaps will cause flickering. Feel free to try and see for yourself.
