Contrary to popular belief, we are not all-knowing-all-seeing magical beings!

If you want help you're going to have to provide lots of info. Like what is your hardware, what is your operating system, what version of GZDoom/LZDoom/whatever you're using, what mods you're loading, how you're loading it, what you've already tried for fixing the problem, and anything else that is even remotely relevant to the problem.

We can't magically figure out what it is if you're going to be vague, and if we feel like you're just wasting our time with guessing games we will act like that's what you're really doing and won't help you.

GZDoom.pk3 can't found

Post by ProtheAngel »

So when I try to run GZDoom, it gives me the error of "GZDoom.pk3 can't be found." I have an error log that I will post below.

Log started: Mon Aug 28 15:22:51 2017

M_LoadDefaults: Load system defaults.
Using program directory for storage

**** DIED WITH FATAL ERROR:
Cannot find gzdoom.pk3

Anyone know a fix for this issue?

Well, the first obvious question I have is, is gzdoom.pk3 actually there in the folder with gzdoom.exe?

If you have installed GZDoom in the C:\Program Files or C:\Program Files (X86) folder, try to install it somewhere else, for example C:\GZDOOM.
Other than that, gzdoom.pk3 is right there in the compressed GZDoom build

I apologize for the mildish late reply, I decided to make an account. But anyways, yes gzdoom.pk3 is in the folder.

Oh and also, I installed GZDoom somewhere else other than the program files.

Can you give the full path where have installed it to?

Also, what happens if you put it directly in "C:\GZDoom" like Kappes Buur said? Does that fix it?

The "C:/GZDoom" didn't work.

Also what do you mean by "full path?"

Now two people have the same problem?

Let's see if we can get a bead on that.

Make a new folder, for example C:\DOOMPORTS\GZDOOM
paste the gzdoom 7z file there and have 7zip Extract here
Now there are only the GZDoom files in there.
Run GZDoom.exe to generate the ini file.
This message appears

Quit and paste DOOM2.WAD in there as well.

Run GZDoom.exe again and the game should be underfoot.
Set up your preferences in OPTIONS.
Spoiler:
If that does not work for you, then there is a major problem with your system.

HOLY SHIT. I FUCKING FIXED THE ISSUE. APPARENTLY I DOWNLOADED THE 32 BIT VERSION OF GZDOOM AND IT WORKED. WHAT?! Anyways, thank you guys for being patient with me, and by the way I'm the same person as the original poster, I made an account.

That makes no sense at all. The 64 bit version should work exactly the same. (Specially considering the fact that most people are running the 64 bit version, so it definitely should work)
Sounds like there's something really fucky going on.

Nevermind, another issue popped up. When I try to load GZDoom with Doom 2, it just crashes as soon as it goes to "EFX initialized."

What's the error? Does it show you a window asking you if you want to save a crash report?

Did you download a stable build of GZDoom or a development build? If it's the latter, you will need to replace the OpenAL32.DLL with one from a stable release of GZDoom from zdoom.org.

Is 3.1.0a a stable build?

OS: Windows XP (NT 5.1) Build 2600
Service Pack 3
M_LoadDefaults: Load system defaults.
Using program directory for storage
W_Init: Init WADfiles.
adding Z:/home/dawson/ZDL-3.2.2.2-stable/gzdoom-bin-3-1-0a/gzdoom.pk3, 717 lumps
adding ./doom2.wad, 2919 lumps
I_Init: Setting up machine state.
CPU speed: 1397 MHz
CPU Vendor ID: GenuineIntel
Name: Intel(R) Celeron(R) 2955U @ 1.40GHz
Family 6, Model 69, Stepping 1
Features: SSE2 SSE3 SSSE3 SSE4.1 SSE4.2
I_InitSound: Initializing OpenAL
Opened device cras
EFX enabled

This is what GZDoom told me before it crashed.

GZDoom version g3.1.0 (6875e5b6e8a55172c0aa8d2b0c0a9a97963a1153)
Command line: "Z:\home\dawson\ZDL-3.2.2.2-stable\gzdoom-bin-3-1-0a\gzdoom.exe"

Wad 0: gzdoom.pk3
Wad 1: doom2.wad

Not in a level.
This is the local.txt.

The report.txt needs to be in a complete seperate reply and minidump.dmp has to be as well, I think.
