doublesky

Post by Anonymous »

I'm playing around with MAPINFO and I'm using this one currently:

Code: Select all

map MAP01 "Coolsky"
next MAP02
cluster 1
doublesky
sky1 COOLFOG 0.1
sky2 COOLSKY -0.07
COOLFOG has transparency. Unfortunately, it looks like COOLFOG on top of COOLFOG, and COOLSKY doesn't show up at all. If I use:

Code: Select all

sky1 COOLSKY 0.1
sky2 COOLFOG -0.07
then COOLSKY shows on top of COOLSKY, and COOLFOG does not appear.

COOLSKY and COOLFOG are both sky textures that have been added in the same wad, and I'm just using the normal DOOM2 MAP01 to test. Any idea what I'm doing wrong here?

Transparency on double skies is different from transparency everywhere else in the engine. The transparent part of the texture needs to be palette index 0 (black). Unfortunately, there is more than one black in the Doom palette, but if you just color it black, the tool you use to import it into a wad will hopefully make it palette index 0.

The transparency looks fine - it's quite clear that I'm seeing a transparent COOLFOG on top of COOLFOG, as the different scroll makes it very noticeable. COOLFOG is a modified sky from Hexen (SKYFOG recoloured, 256x200), and COOLSKY is a sky from Doom (SKY3 same as original, 256x128), so would the different dimensions make ZDoom unhappy?

Resizing COOLSKY to 400x200 fixed the problem. I'll test it with the old dimensions to see if turning off sky resizing fixes it.

Turning off stretching short skies doesn't fix the problem.

Yes, they need to be the same height (but they can be different widths).
