Based off of this thread btw. Moo.
I need something to do as a summer project so I was thinking of doing a hexen style project. The levels would be similar to Hexen but in a wow style dungeon matter, with mobs of monsters and minibosses with alot of health, and eventually, bosses with a ton of health that may remind you of raid bosses.

The theme is of Our Hero(s) are set on a quest to go deep into a canyon, which leads to a swamp, and eventually a castle, to defeat the uh, Master. The hero would fight orcs, humans, naga, bog monsters, ethereals, and maybe a draenei. Who knows I'll cook something interesting.

The weapon system will work so that the player is granted preset abilities in the beginning of the game, instead of having to find weapons. An example is this, for the Mage. The higher the slot the more mana required. The first 2 slots are offensive while the second two are special abilities. Mana and Health Regen will be present depending on class.

Nothing has been accomplished yet besides the monsters and character classes being set up in their respective templates so they can be ripped (20 baddies atm that are set up dressed etc). I'll start mapping withen a few weeks. I have to take care of some concept work first (like what the maps are going to be in such).

Hopefully we'll see then something in a few weeks :D. I like warcraft, so it would be cool to see that in game, heh...

ok, i know this proyect is for doom with hexen style, not hexen maps (by the way, made ages ago in wadauthor :P), but i figured that this might be useful... maybe not, considering is not finished, but tell me if interested.

I'm back!

Anyway it's worth looking into but the theme of the first few maps is an orcish stronghold. However this may have some use, I'd like to look at it.

Oh, and I have plans for what I'm doing for the first map or few so I'll post that within the next few days (I will really do so this time!)

Ok time for some info on what I'm currently doing. I'm working on the first area of the whole thing as a test area. It takes place in a cave filled with spiders, little worm things, troggs, and a Worgen(Wolfman) boss. The gameplay is intended to be maybe 10 minutes long, but it is going to touch on the many things the project as a whole is going to do.

Some of the features I hope to include are

-Scripted Bosses with multiple phases, abilities, and a pretty boss health bar.
-Multiple Classes with a unique weapon system compared to normal Doom/Hexen/etc
-Challenging encounters with monsters
-Two difficulties, Normal and Heroic (Heroic having monsters and bosses with new abilities making the experience more challenging.
-"Essence" System, allowing you to collect drops from baddies and then utilizing them for special abilities specified per class.

Details on the Classes. (Mage and Warrior) Not final, but will likely be in the test game. All slots are given to the player at the start, and the slot switch is instant.

Warrior
-Uses Rage (like in Wow), which is gained by attacking with your Slot 1 weapon, getting damage, and Enrage (Essence Ability).
-Slot 1: (P)Normal Attack, (S)Shield Block [Raise Armor by High Amount, but unable to attack as you hold the button]
-Slot 2: (P)Heroic Strike [10 rage, Attacks with a higher amount of damage], (S)Execute [At least 40 rage, converts all your current rage into a high power attack, the more rage the better the attack will be.]
-Slot 3: (P)Throw Axe [15 rage, throws a projectile with equal damage of a heroic strike], (S)Cleave [20 rage, hack multiple targets in front of you for some damage.]
-Slot 4: [Essence Abilities] (P)Charge [20 Essences, increase speed by 50% for 5 seconds, 10 second cool down], (S)Enrage [Converts X amount of essences to X amount of rage]

Mage
-Uses mana, with a 200 mana limit. Can conjure food and water with Essences.
Slot 1: (P)Arcane Missiles (5 mana, fires a stream of projectiles like Hexen's Serpent Staff), (S)Firebolt (30 mana, fires a firebolt at the enemy)
Slot 2: (P)Frost Blast (40 mana, Fires a "shotgun blast" of ice projectiles), (S)Arcane Explosion (60 mana, Blasts targets around you, mainly to get rid of multiple weak enemies surrounding you)
Slot 3: (P)PolyMorph (100 mana, 10 second cooldown, Polymorphs your target for 10 seconds, but will restore to full health afterwards), (S)Spell Reflect (50 mana, Reflects a projectile headed towards you)
Slot 4: [Essence Abilities] (20 Essences), Restore 15 health or 50 mana.

Impressive plans, and from what I know (aside from the essence part), fairly close to the game too... which is pretty good, given what you're doing.
