Hi. Is there an easy way to copy the dynamic lights from the main mod and add them to ADL 1.1? I really miss them when I play ADL with Cheelo's Voxel Doom. Would it be a relatively easy process in SLADE, or would it require some mad modding skills?

I created this account on the forum because I really wanted to leave this comment.

I would like to say that this is one of the best mods I have ever seen. I've tested several mods, always trying to find a balance between simplicity and effects, without affecting the original gameplay.

I still don't have the knowledge to create my own mods, so I was looking for some that would give my game some lighting effects, liquids, better barrel explosions, blood, etc.

I have already combined several mods, such as CodeFX, Smooth (only for weapons), Nashgore, and another mod to break decorations, etc. A bit complex, but I managed to get by with them.

Without mods, I believe the closest I got to what I wanted was using the DOOMRETRO engine, which improves barrel explosions, adds effects to liquids and more blood, keeping the gameplay intact. However, DOOMRETRO is a limited engine compared to GZDOOM.

To my surprise, I found Angled Doom! This mod supplies everything I wanted to see, it combines everything I would like to have. Well, if I could report just one detail that I would like to see, it would be for the screen to shake a little when a barrel explodes. But I can play without it and be happy. Anyway, it's very good and satisfying to use just a single mod file to have everything needed for the game.

Thank you very much for creating this amazing mod!

I can absolutely recommend Supercharge, if you want something simple yet modern. And also Beautiful Doom's modern class too. And lastly, EVP.

Long time no see, fellas!

So, firstly, sorry to bump my own thread without any new versions or updates. I was absent from the forums for a long while now, and while i was active in a particular Discord community, i haven't modded anything in years. Two years, to be more precise. As we grow older, we get a lot of responsibilities that we were not used to - and i guess most of you have heard this before. I've been living by myself since 2022, and taking care of my house, my cat and my bills took a severe toll into my modding free time. And all of the sudden, i'm 35 years old and life isn't how i planned yet. I'm going to be honest, i really thought for a while that my Doom modding days were done.

But they are not.

With the release of Dark Ages - which i can't run on my setup as i write this post - i saw the videos, the hype, and the dormant passion for modding is alive again! I'm back to the game, quite literally.

I would like to thank you all for playing Angled Doom over the years and showing support! While i don't know when i'm going to update it again, know that i'm still modding, and i'm still working on new stuff, bringing back some of my unfinished mods from limbo. Expect new things to be dropped here at the forums soon.

Stay tuned and, one last time, thank you. Feels good to be back.

WOW I was not expecting that, like holy cow this mod is amazing! Blew my socks off away.

The mod's name is very unassuming that I thought it was just a minimal lo-fi graphics tweak this entire time.

It does crash though and has some bugs. Namely sometimes monsters are missing a "+COUNTKILL" so I can't get 100% monster kills. I think it happens with spawned monsters like Archvile, maybe Pain Elemental does something too. Crashes are random and happen 5% of the time, I can't seem to pinpoint what causes them.

Thank you for your kind words, Spaceman!

I never considered to stack my creations in the same odds as the great ones you mentioned above, so i'm beyond flattered!

It's good to know about those bugs. I'm willing to iron those out soon. I've been messing with Angled Doom these days so i can return to form, but i can't really tell anything about a release date yet because, to be honest, i don't know when it will be ready. I've just incorporated some of the fixes and suggestions from the previous page and i'm tweaking some of the effects of the base mod, but i'm also having some new ideas of content here, that i rather not spoil right now....

Now, in regards of AD Plus random crashes, back when i was working on the mod i never experienced those - but let's be frank, GZDoom changed A LOT in years, so it's possible that something in the mod has broken during the passage of time. Considering that i am working on a new version of Angled Doom, i believe that updating AD Plus will be a must or otherwise i might break it even further. Again, i can't give you a solid date on a new release, but know that i will try to cover those issues.

I'm already looking forward to a new version!! 😊

PS: When I play with various graphics mods, including relightning, my PC stutters massively as soon as I fire the BFG, for example, and the beams target multiple enemies. This seems to have a significant impact on the entire hardware. Perhaps there's an idea here for a patch.
And: the various modes of the improved shotgun/supershotgun (lightning & explosive) are way too OP in my opinion. I don't know if these modes are necessary.

Best regards

I will take a look at it. I know the BFG in Angled Doom Plus can spawn a lot of different particle effects. The beams are rail attacks, and they all spawn a lot of particles in order to create the beam effect, which can tank performance, specially if you have other different graphics mods loaded - since they also take their toll into the system. Different hardware configurations also matters, so it can be a little delicate balance to achieve. I'm open to suggestions on how to work around the issues.

About the different firing modes for the improved guns, i made them in order to take down the rare monsters in ADP, since they can be spongy and hard, specially in the higher difficulties. I might nerf them somewhat, and see ways to change the game balance, maybe i can craft a new combat dynamic around that.

Angled Doom triple update on the works!

Post by jdredalert »

Yeah, i guess everybody knows by now, but Angled Doom is back, and i can start talking about what is coming next. Quite e few updates have been made, i took the bug reports in the comments and went after them. Followed Weasel's tip and reworked all the enemy spawners, so no more enemies being active when they should not, and no more BOSSDEATH misbehavior. Also, i felt the need to update some of the graphics and tweak some effects, reducing the amount of particles for certain projectiles in favor of performance for weaker hardware. Here's a sneak peak of some of the changes:
Spoiler: Some screenshots

BUT! That's not the whole package. There's an extra bonus for you guys: Angled Doom 64 weapons.
Spoiler: Warning! Doom 64 Weapons ahead!

Most of them are from this mod on Nexus, by Schrotflinte12, with some personal touches and adaptations.

Truth is, save from a few minor tweaks, i could say that Angled Doo v0.9 is already done. But i can't release it by itself, or it would break compatibility with Angled Doom Plus. And since i'm here, why not update Lite version with the new sprites, right? So stay tuned for news. While i can't pinpoint an exact date for release, expect it to be out there in the next week or so. Maybe earlier, maybe later. One thing i can promise, all three files will be updated simultaneously, so everyone will be invited to the party.
