The mechanics of how that gun behaves sounds like it exemplifies everything that would drive me MAD if I ever tried to play Hideous Destructor.
Just... Give me a Ruger Mini-14, alright? It'll take any magazine that'll fit an M16 and cycle with any round that'll cycle an M16, shouldn't it? Just add tritium-illuminated iron sights so I can see my sights in the dark and I'll be fine.
The Military Rifle and the Master Blaster from Ashes Afterglow, I like the Mllitary Rifle because it can provide a lot of fire power and can take out some of the more armoured enemies much easier than other weapons, I like the Master Blaster because a Grenade launcher mixed with a Flamethrower just feels awesome allowing me to use it for multiple situations, Special mentions goes to the Assault Rifle from Johnny Doom, It's simple but provides good support with it's full auto and it's alternative scope/burst mode, It has saved me from near death on multiple occasions thanks to this combination.
I'll break this down in a bite-sized, point-bulleted list that won't include anything from Russian Overkill because then this list would be 5 pages long:
Ironblast (Guncaster), because one-shotting Mancubi and turning hordes of lesser monsters into red mist is Quality Fun!
Dual Fleshrends (Trailblazer), for rapidly one-shotting Revenants and making Plutonia (and their inspired kin) much more bearable.
Everhail's Magic Missile (and artifacts), based on his appearance in Samara: Reincarnation, just adjust his damage output a bunch, and you'll easily see why Patterson's reluctant to use anything else!
Knuckle Sandwich Supreme (Guncaster), B. A. D. A. S. S. + Deadmaker's Mask = Punchy Goodness
Old Dreadful (Guncaster) and Double Deuce (Trailblazer), both in one entry as they make S-tier "fuck this entire room in particular" weapons
Wallbuster (Codename Demo), mostly as unwieldy as the weapons can be, and as much as I question some of the mod's design choices, you gotta admit: Being able to one-shot just about EVERYTHING and even, well, bust walls open... that's what I boot up the mod for!
The bullwhip from High Noon Drifter is something of an unsung hero; at first glance it seems to be a glorified Mighty Foot, but its increased range and ability to destroy projectiles really sets it apart from other quick melee implementations.
My favorite weapons in Doom mods are detailed starting melee weapons (like Beautiful Doom's modern fists) which don't seem like they can do much, but has the potential to carry you through the entire map-pack with or without berserk. Yes, i am a UV-Tyson enjoyer although i wish there was a "universal explosive barrel weapon" mod, might just try to make one.

I'm going to say straight out that I am King Boring of the Kingdom of Lame, so take this with a grain of salt.
Personally, I like simple, straightforward automatics with respectable accuracy. Best example I can think of comes from PillowBlaster's Trailblazer: The FMG. Just a standard assault rifle, with a side-mounted magazine. Nothing fancy about it, it just shoots straight and fills enemies with lead from a safe distance.
However, all that said, one thing I'd REALLY like to see in a DooM mod is where the standard shotgun is a normal pump-action boomstick; but the Super Shotgun is a room-sweeping automatic shotgun.
How about looking into Meatgrinder for the shotgun preference?
The ironblast, strucker, augur, and longhorn from guncaster, the shotgun and assault railgun from hellrider and the shock rifle from doom tournament... And finally a shameless self promotion: The thumper, stryker, and shredder from my mod, the adventures of delta!
