Bigger guns! More gore! And able to be ran in nearly any port! Side effects may include: intense power fantasy, extreme bloodlust, demoncidal thoughts, going berserk.
Crispy N' Brutal is a mod designed to be a brutal style gameplay mod for MBF21 compatible ports, bringing a Brutal Doom/Project Brutality like experience to less advanced sourceports.
Along with all 9 original weapons, version 4 of the mod comes with weapon addons that replace other weapons! Allowing customizable loadouts, and being able to have an authentic Crispy N' Brutal experience in the Doom + Doom 2 Legacy Of Rust DLC!
I really love the work PufferPheesh put into this mod, so I figured I'd share it here on ZDoom Forum too — and while I'm at it, drop my own update for it
All differences between the Lossvoise Update and the original:
Spoiler:
- Fundamentally new blood system. More detail and additional effects during agony. Blood pools fade over time for optimization.
- HQ sounds for all weapons
- Updated ricochet sounds
- Updated pickup sounds for items and weapons
- HQ dismemberment and impact sounds
- New falling and use sounds for the player
- Player voice sounds from within the helmet
- Player and all monsters have footstep sounds. Dust under the player's feet when walking.
- Monster falling sounds on death
- Blood flashes when monsters take damage, and on death
- Weapon rebalance. Faster switching and reloading. Melee is much more effective, combos reward higher damage. Each weapon now has an advantage over others at different ranges and situations.
- Revenant missiles are slower, since it fires two.
The update is now in an archive with separated files, so everyone can include only what they really want in their own loadout.
HOW TO LOAD MODS:
Spoiler:
If you are using GZ/UZDOOM
1) ZFootStepsLOST.pk3 (if you want advanced footsteps for the player)
2) D4VTEXnSOUNDSnPALETTE.wad (if you want fancy D4V textures, sounds and palette)
3) D4V_PALETTE (if you want only the D4V palette)
4) CNB(Lossvoise_update_v4_ZDOOM_PNG_NO_PFOOTSTEPS).wad (if you want the CNB version without simple player footsteps, so you can use the advanced ones)
5) CNB(Lossvoise_update_v4_ZDOOM_PNG).wad (if you want built-in simple footsteps for the player. Don't use ZFootStepsLOST.pk3 if you're using this file)
6) GrenadeLauncher_CnB(Lossvoise_Sound).wad (if you want to change the rocket launcher to a grenade launcher + updated sound)
If you are using Nugget/DSDA/HELION/The Eternity Engine (use Nugget for the best experience)
1) D4VTEXnSOUNDSnPALETTE.wad (if you want fancy D4V textures, sounds and palette)
2) D4V_PALETTE (if you want only the D4V palette)
3) CNB(Lossvoise_update_v4_MBF21).wad (Simple footsteps included)
4) GrenadeLauncher_CnB(Lossvoise_Sound).wad (if you want to change the rocket launcher to a grenade launcher + updated sound)
I want to stress once more that I only updated certain aspects to my personal taste and do not claim authorship!
Thanks to PufferPheesh, I was able to learn how to work with DecoHack, and without him I wouldn't have been able to bring my skills and ideas to life. It was a very inspiring process for me ♥
